First chance to see both our team that finished so well at the end of last season and any trialists that will undoubtedly feature against a championship side.

Looking forward to this.
Looks like our first choice first half lineup has been three at the back (including a trialist in the absence of Marshall and Moxey), with Stobbs and Collins at wing back.
McGavin in place of the missing Dawson alongside Lapslie and Hall in midfield, Ash and Jarvis up front.
Wonder if we will see Moxey and / or Dawson.
There is a huge gulf in class between tier 2 and tier 6. Not sure we will learn much about how we will do against National League South opposition.

Same starting eleven including Trialist A.
All subs have names. Five unknown. Trialists, signings or college kids?

What a difference a year makes with a hardfought and well-deserved draw against a newly promoted side to the championship. We started very strongly which set the tempo for the match.. Plymouth did look dangerous on occasions and broke on the right which needed Tomlinson to clear off the line with Halstead beaten.
Our best move in the half came shortly after with McGavin having a shot saved and Collins shooting just wide from the rebound and perhaps one of those chances should have gone in. Plymouth scored from corner which was headed out by Jarvis but a strong volley from just outside the area left Halsted with no chance.
Many of the players carried on from the high standards set at the end of last season with a very hard working Bradley Ash looking like a very good additional threat up front having a good all round game with Jarvis and was my player the match. Stobbs and Collins also continue to work incredibly hard. Just the one trialist of any note, number 15 playing in defence and then later in midfield but he looked both comfortable and confidence on the ball.
Midway through the half Stobbs twice had some joy on the right wing. First finding some space his pass to Ash gave him a great opportunity to score but he unselfishly laid it off to a clear Jarvis but his pass was slightly misdirected just behind him. However he made no mistake a few minutes later when another cross from Stobbs was right on the money just outside the 6 yard box to head home and leave the Argyle shorter substitute keeper no chance. Good to see Dan Martin back on the pitch and hope he finds a way to a new contract.
Both sides spent the last quarter of the game trying to find the winning goal but to no avail but a good evening at Plainmoor with over 3500 in attendance.

Yes, really good effort by our side tonight.Thought we looked more up for it than Argyle at times. Plenty of second balls won and good tackles going in.Argyle scored against the run of play really, but it was a good goal by their new star striker. I feared for us a bit then, but we kept our work rate up,with Ash, Jarvis,and Lapslie, inevitably, really putting in a shift.
Given the number of substitutions Argyle made,all at once, the game lost a bit of momentum, but we fully deserved or equaliser-great cross from Jarvis and smart headed finish from Ash.
Rarely can 1,400 away fans have been so quiet.
All in all an encouraging performance , and achieved without Moxey and Dawson still. Good to see Dan Martin get minutes too.

I must be the only person who went last night and thought it was a good game played with an uptempo beat…
However, disappointed that there was no striker or two on the bench only one trialist (who had a good game) and one of the weakest benches since the bench was invented.
Nice to see Dan Martin have a good game, hopefully that’s LB sorted.

You cannot draw too many conclusions from pre-season friendlies, but a lot of encouraging signs.
A very interesting and competitive game. We went pretty much full pelt, whilst you felt Argyle could have slipped up a gear if they really wanted to.
The positives that messrs Johnson and Downes mentioned last Thursday were evident.
Players seemed fit. Seven played 90 minutes (or 89 and a half) and finished strongly.
The effort and will to win were there.
Shape and discipline were good.
It was the 3-5-2 we ended last season with, but with a bit of a twist.
Argyle played three up front - one through the middle and two wide.
That could have seen Dobbs and Collins forced to play as full backs, restricting our attacking width and leaving three centre backs marking one man.
But instead we spread the back three (Donnellan right and trialist Craske left) so it was more two full backs and one centre back than three centre backs.
The three at the back played well and did not need Hall falling back to help out as much as I thought they might.
Craske ended up playing three different roles - each neatly and efficiently. Looks like a decent utilty squad player.
We pressed hard throughout. Stobbs, Collins and Ash in particular got through a lot of work.
Hope is that Jarvis and Ash can hit the goals to get us promoted. Ash had a great chance to equalise but did not pull the trigger, but made up for it shortly after with a fine header from a Carlisle-like Stobbs cross.
Worry is the lack of squad depth. All the trialists bar Craske appear to have been released. Still no sign of Moxey or Dawson. I hope Hanson and Marshall may be trying their luck elsewhere. We fleshed out the bench with five college kids. Without them, it was a typical Johnson bench - a keeper, three defenders and no attacking options.
Lovett replaced Halstead at half-time.
First outfielder off was McGavin who seemed to pick up a knock. Martin came on on the left of the back three, Craske moved left to right and Donnellan pushed into midfield.
Next off, unsurprisingly, was Hall. Crowe came on right of the back three, with Craske pushing into midfield.
Next off Collins with young Callum Thomas taking over from Martin left of the back three and Martin pushing up to replace Collins wide left.
Finally, college kid Kennell got a few seconds' pitch time replacing Lapslie.
