Disappointing in many respects. I was hoping that the games against Taunton/Yeovil/ Weymouth/WSM etc would all be on Saturdays so we could have a nice day out.

Tough first game, possibly one of the farthest to travel to but at least can get out of the way. Win that and could set us up very nicely although Chippenham early on as well, a team we seem to struggle against. Think we will get good support on the road with all those local games, Tuesday nights or not.

We're in a part time league now and the emphasis is on teams playing their long distance fixtures on a Saturday so their players don't have to book time off work for long distance travelling, consequently it is to the benefit of those teams to play their more local fixtures mid week when less time is needed for travelling.

Quite simply, if we can’t win the opening game against Dover, (who average about two points a season) we might as well pick up the coats we put down for the match goal posts and go home! 🤨

This is very true. The downside to a part-time league is that many of the players are part-time because they can earn significantly more money working than playing full-time for a fully professional football club (even up to League Two level). Some will own their own business and can choose their own working hours. We will encounter some part-time players who would walk into our team but have chosen not to. And they will be 100% motivated to show us how good they are.

Lots of mid-week games, including several "local derbies", and those away fixtures will very likely see significantly increased attendances and revenues for the opposition. Hopefully they will be better prepared for the Yellow Army invasion than WSM were last time-out!

Is the kind gent who usually puts the fixtures into an Apple Calendar thingy doing so this year? 😁
I was checking before I manually add them.
Thank you 😁

Some useless information:
It's good to see that Yeovil are currently bottom of our new league according to the OS.
I also note that the current holders of top spot, Aveley F.C., once reached the first round proper of the FA Cup. That was in 1970-71 when they lost away at Yeovil while, on the same day, we were beating Aston Villa 3 - 1 at Plainmoor. Times have changed!

Stood in the mini-stand (now defunct) watching great football (now defunct) singing a myriad of songs (now defunct) and watching all the pretty girls go by and getting a stiffy (now defunct)! 🥺

The home game v Weymouth scheduled for Tuesday 14 November 2023 has now been re-arranged for Tuesday 5 December 2023.
Something to do with Weymouth's continued involvement in their County Cup competition, which seems a strange priority to me!
Hope they get stuffed away to Wimborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup! ⚽️

County cups taking priority over league games!
It’s like being in the South Devon League!
Maybe we’ll have a new manager by then.
