If GJ does decide to retire (50/50?)...who would you like to see as our next manager?

I’d look at someone like Ross Jenkins from Oxford City.
Not some local option or ex-player.

Thanks petef. Not sure if that is good news or bad news. I guess we will find out.

Change or no change neither choice is ideal we've just been relegated but I know if we had to go through the wrigmoroll of advertising for a management team the current squad would also be broken up and the squad would become fragmented. At least this way we can begin the rebuild process immediately. New manager and new players and we really would be starting again from first base and we definitely have a chance of keeping a decent core of players with Johnson remaining. Hes undoubtedly respected, not many managers would have been able to motivate his squad the way he has with what looked like an inevitable relegation just ten games ago.. I see advantages in keeping GJ and AD.For one they are passionate football people who care about the club and know exactly what's required in fact they knew from the start of this season what was required but were unable to get the right combination of players playing how they wanted till the last ten games. Think what you like but we've had our fair share of bad luck over mostly post xmas when games have been thrown away through stupid individual player errors and poor refereeing decisions. That's not the managers fault and players are human and make poor decisions. almost at the death the right players became available and were willing to come and things have picked up massively. Would you rather see us in Yeovil's position or ours right now? Still no change of ownership all in limbo and a manager in Cooper disliked by the majority of the supporters and who is unable to motivate the players he's got. They went down with a whimper. I dont doubt for one moment that If GJ was on his bike here Yeovil would have jumped at the chance of offering the job there.
Like it or not whatever the decision we, as supporters have to go along with it and hope it works out an we can make an instant return to the NL.

Thanks petef...personally I thought it might be time for GJ and AD to step aside...but I totally agree with your last paragraph. Hopefully both GJ and AD will be refreshed and ready to go again next season. And hopefully the talent scout ( GJs brother?) does a better job than last season.

Sorry to disappoint but GJ and AD will be here next season. Confirmed in post match interview. I hope next season he will have a least ONE striker on the bench and won’t overload the squad with useless CB. Also if we are winning, please settle for the win and not f*nny about in the last minute trying to increase our GD. Interesting times a foot….

Without being able to name anyone, for a while now I’ve thought that I would like to see a young manager with fresh ideas come in.
That said, petef makes some very good points. Knowing that from what GJ said in his post match interview that he has all but signed on the dotted line, I think I will give him the first 5 games or so before deciding whether it’s a good decision or not. You can never take anything for granted in football, but with GJ at the helm and a full time squad we should do well in the NLS.
Everyone likes a team that’s winning no matter league their in so I fully expect if he does well it won’t be long before we’ll hear 🎶 Gary Johnson’s Yellow Army 🎶 again.

We conceded 80 goals this season.I hope AD comes up with a few new ideas next season. You would have thought he has been at the club long enough to sort it out.

Couldnt agree more Phil .When the tactical philosophy worked it was a joy to behold, however persisting with the same tactics with inteferior plyers was a recipe for the disaster and relegation thats followed. He wont change thats clear but in a part time league woth only one other former league club he may again be successful.

Last time we were in the NLS we won a lot of games in the last 20 minutes when the opposition were on their knees.

Ross Jenkins of Oxford City might be worth considering.
However, it depends on what sort of manager we went for if GJ did leave (which obviously he isn’t, but the debate rages on in some places).
If we went for another experienced journeyman manager, then I think we may as well stay with GJ.
If we went for an up-and-coming lower league manager or even one from NLS, then the likelihood is that their contact books stretches to roughly their locality and also part-time players. Not sure how this will translate to taking charge of a full time club as the players they know will unlikely become fulltime if they are currently combining careers and football to earn more than they’d earn fulltime at Torquay. It’s not really worked out for Jimmy Dean at Scunthorpe who has looked way out of his depth.
So then perhaps it would be a case of looking for a young coach from higher up - maybe someone like Matt Gill/Ryan Harley (not necessarily those two nut an equivalent) but how easy/difficult it would be for people like them to build a full time team at NLS would be the chance we’d have to take.
Our best chance of hitting the ground running is the status quo, in my view.
