In the pub after the Altrincham game a friend was arguing that Clarke Osborne had every right to keep his plans and intentions for the club to himself. I vehemently disagreed.
The fans are the most important stakeholder of any football club. Players, managers, sponsors, owners and even grounds come and go, but the fans are a constant. Without the fans there is no club. If 2000 Gulls fans upped sticks and went to Home Park next season to watch Championship football there would be no club. Fortunately, football is a unique product in that however poor the quality of the product the consumers will always continue to show undying loyalty to their club.
This creates a unique relationship between the business that sells the product (the club) and its consumers (the fans). The owner is the custodian of the football club for the fans. For the club not to acknowledge this is to disrespect the fans.
Clarke Osborne has now made a statement regarding next season saying “business as usual”. TUST has responded asking for “greater communication and transparency between the club and its loyal supporters”. I hope Mr Osborne is listening and appreciates the responsibility that he has to those who support his club.

It's his money and he's the legal owner. It's not unusual for the owner of a club to be invisible and the public face of the club being the chairman or CEO, e.g. Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy at Spurs. I would say it's Edwards responsibility to talk to people but if he doesn't want to so be it. If I was Clarke Osborne I would be getting a bit pissed off with all the harping from critical fans seeing it was my money that is keeping the club in existence. The last time we went down there were verbal attacks made on all the forums aimed at Osborne but as soon as Johnson was appointed and we started winning everyone seemed to forget their antipathy towards the owner. Now we're losing again the owner becomes the target of our wrath again. Let's honest what is really getting your goat is relegation and there is only one person responsible for that, unless you argue (quite reasonably) Osborne/Edwards should have given him his cards ages ago.

I will accept that the chairman or CEO can be the public face of an absentee owner but for the CEO to also remain silent is to ignore the fans. And as I’ve explained in my post, I believe that the fans are at the heart of the club.
Yes, I am bitterly disappointed that we are about to be relegated but as I posted elsewhere back in December, I thought that if the owner didn’t spend in the January transfer window to bring in players from leagues one and two relegation would follow, which is what has happened. The run of five wins did give me a brief glimmer but as everybody knows, it’s the hope that kills you.
