I think we were all over joyed when we learned Toddy was back in training after his treatment has had such a good effect on his well being. Now he just wants to get playing games again and even has next Wednesday night's Devon St. Luke's Bowl quarter-final tie between United and his hometown club at Speeds Meadow, in his sights as a game he might get to play in.
It seems there is a possibility that we may well go out on loan, not having a reserve side is a problem as he will need to get game under his belt, before he could be expected to get back into the first team.
The news really makes me so happy when there is so much negative news around us, as someone who has to live with the big C so close, it is so uplifting to hear about anyone who is winning the very big battle. I will be honest and say that Carol and I do not get any inspiration from the fact that Toddy is doing so well, only because what he has and what Carol is suffering from is so different and can't really be compared.
I know when I was going through my divorce and really could not believe I would be happy again, I just wanted to find and talk with people who had got married for the second time. I wanted to hear how they coped and how the second time it was so much better and they were so much more happy than they ever had been in their lives. I think I must just have been looking for some inspiration from them, to believe that I would find the love and happiness I was looking for. So Carol and I look to those who have come throught what she has, as I'm sure you will understand its more approate.
But for one small boy and his dad, Toddy is really proving to be a real inspiration and all Todd's good news is giving them the hope that their lives will have a happy ending. You may remember a post I made about this boy and his father, if not a quick outline so you can follow my post better.
I came back to my work place one Wednesday afternoon, I do the banking on Wednesdays and was about to go and as I walked toward the door, I saw one of our customers inside the shop. I went to say hello and asked if he was OK, he just broke down and cried, so I took him outside to talk with him. I soon learned his six year old son had just been told he had leukaemia.
When you get such news the first thing and the hardest thing to deal with, is the thought that the person is going to die, its normal and it is something that needs to be got under control and dealt with, if you are ever going to be able to help with the fight that is ahead. My boss not thinking and to be fair not aware of this mans sad news, came out and said I should stop talking and get to the bank before it closed.
The man sad sorry and would go, but I said no, we had not finished talking and only when I knew he was going to be OK, would I let him go. We talked some more and he picked up a fair bit and left. I walked into my work place and really gave my boss what for, I told him the F****** bank would still be there tomorrow and this man was not even sure his little boy would be.
The treatment this six year is getting, is far more intense and has far worse effects on him, than Toddy and it is going to be very long term, but I talked to the dad a while back about Toddy and how he was now suffering from leukaemia. I suggested that both he and his son should follow the Toddy's story in the hope that they would both get real hope and inspiration from the progress Toddy is making.
I know it has helped the little boy and it really has helped the dad, who is now coping so much better and I wish both of them as well as Toddy and all others who suffer from this terrible illness all the best and hope they they never give up the fight and will in the end beat it.
