Another tough game as we complete a sequence of four home games in less than two weeks. The good news is that our injury crisis seems to be easing. Andrews is back in training and Moxey is more likely than not to be available for this game but it remains to be seen as to whether he will start. Our only long-term injuries remaining are both at left back in the form of Wyatt and Martin with the former still a few weeks away. Chesterfield are third but seem to be stronger at home and hopefully we can continue our recent good form to get something out of this game. Unfortunately I’m away for this game but will look forward to reading peoples thoughts on this. COYY. TUFC match preview

Another high scoring game methinks. It would be nice if we could get that extra goal that turns a draw into a win, rather than the seemingly endless condition of an extra goal turning a draw into defeat! 🐮

Surely Hall will be rested. On the bench ready to replace Lapslie.
Again, we are up against a team well rested due to a postponement.
If Moxey back, we could see Crowe move to the right with Donnellan freed to play centre-midfield.
Or Moxey could go left-centre-back, give Ellis a rest and use Smith (if he is still with us!) in midfield.
Would love to see Andrews on the bench - but expect that is a few weeks away.
A win over Dorking would have made this a free hit, but we cannot really afford two home games without a win. I suppose a draw would be a decent result but two points from two games is not the stuff to break away from the drop zone.

We are only in November its not next May !

I agree that a point against Chesterfield would be a decent result - especially as they are well rested and we are not. What I was trying to say is that I would have been happier with a win against Dorking and a loss against Chesterfield. Three points are better than two. But that is gone now, so two points are better than one. We would both definitely agree that a win today would be a fantastic result. Unlikely but not impossible.

Unchanged eleven - so Hall starts again!
Andrews replaces Omar to give a better balanced bench. Great to have a striker to bring on - just as long as we don't rush him back too soon and end up knackering him again!

No Scott Smith, for the 4th game in a row.
Coincidentally since Stephen Wearne arrived...

The second time in a week we have to face a very good side that should be fresher after their match was cancelled in midweek. Despite this being a more important result than next Tuesdays Im not expecting much from today but live in hope as per usual.
When you can leave a player of Tshimanga's quality on the bench you know its going to be a tough day. Here's hoping....

Another high scoring game methinks....... You got that right. Even first half and we deservedly got an equaliser and could then have gone ahead but for a great save. Second period was a shambles and they toyed with us. From memory they had five meaningful shots and scored the lot. We probably had more shots but, apart from our one goal, we were woeful. It was an exhibition in clinical finishing from them.

Say what you like the Cup match killed us. All that effort and adrenaline on a heavy pitch in front of the cameras has taken its toll and reckon we would have been two points better off than we are now.. But then again I expected it and have seen it so many times over the years with far better squads. Hope he rests the players that are performing on Tuesday our only priority is staying in this division nothing else should matter. Conceding 41 goals in just 19 games though how the hell do you correct that. Conceding double figures against Derby is a distinct possibility but then again its a meaningless match other than the revenue its created.

It makes you wonder what we are working on in training....clearly not enough defensive work!

At least we’re not bottom…
Has Thompson gone back…
Awful second half, gave them too much space.
Useless Ref…

That all finished in a depressing way today as we feared it might. Chesterfield were a well drilled team and dominated the first 15 minutes or so. You could say all their goals were similar. They worked their space, picked their spot and finished clinically with most goals flying in out of Halstead's reach. There was no lack of effort from Torquay but a team like Chesterfield will punish you if you give them space. De Silva was Torquay's sponsors MOTM and scored a lovely goal to make it 1-1 and Lapsie got involved and made things happen in midfield.
The first 15 minutes or so was all Chesterfield and sadly with their first corner, they scored with a free header. Once again Torquay had it all to do. To Torquay's credit, they got into the game and were troubling Chesterfield. De Silva hit the ball low and powerfully when the ball broke to him to equalise. I would say for the last 20 minutes of the first half Torquay were the better team and were putting Chesterfield under pressure with some decent moves. I was feeling optimistic for the second half.
However, true to form Torquay conceded shortly after the break just like the Dorking game. We seemed switched off from a short corner and the ball was worked until a shot from the edge of the box was placed in the top corner. This was the pattern of the second half. Chesterfield were not really dominating but most of their shots found the back of our net with some lovely clinical finishing. Torquay had some chances but failed to finish. McGavin came on and hit a peach of a shot that was brilliantly saved. Torquay made 3 subs in the second half but they were all a little too late. Andrews even made a late appearance and true to form skewed a shot horribly wide.
And there lies the problem, we have no game changers on the bench. McGavin, Marshall and Andrews came on today and we are back to the players who got us rock bottom in the first place. McGavin picked out some good passes and has a good shot but is seriously slow, Marshall is a hot head and cannot be trusted and Andrews runs weirdly and cannot score for toffees. The truth is our recent loan acquisitions are propping the team up. De Silva and Ellis rescued us from a humiliating defeat against Dorking and again it was De Silva today. Goodwin and Jarvis worked hard in attack today and Jarvis is also useful winning headers in our own box.
I am not too sure you can blame the defence too much today either. It was a common opinion today that Hall should have been substituted much earlier in midfield as we were overrun too often. As I said there was no lack of effort today but a team like Chesterfield will expose all our weaknesses and punish us.
