You will have to make up your own minds if this post is a windup or a genuine oneIt was with shock and horror, that I learned last week on the J.Vine show on BBC radio two that we may soon lose morris dancing for good in this country. Part of the reason is not enough young people see it as cool to be a morris dancer. I always thought it was just more of a country thing, but how wrong I was, it seems in London they have their own morris dancers, who do many displays in the city. There are morris dancing teams all over the country, they are different in some ways, depending on where they are, Only in Devon and Cornwall do the morris dancers use a hobby horse, but all have bells on their legs and use sticks etc. Its not just men, as many ladies also dance as well. I would hate to see morris dancing die out and I'm looking for fellow members to join me in setting up a new group, I'm looking for men and ladies, I already have one member in mind for the role of the hobby horse So don't be shy, get your names down and lets get it together. I will approach the club to see if we can provide some half time entertainment. Dave R This is a group that dance at Morwellham Quay.

I heard a similar story that Morris Dancing is dieing out (he was a good bloke, that Morris).
I think Dave with your musical background you should form the Torquay United fans Forum Morris Dancers - I'm sure you would be welcome at most Football grounds.
I would have to (on medical grounds) refrain from this venture.

I am being serious here................................ About twenty three odd years ago I saw a group of Morris Dancers (that most English of pass times) performing at a school fete in Acton W3 who were to a man either ethnically Afro/Afro Caribbean or Asian................the role of the traditional "Black Man" was played by a black guy who had his face whitened by make up. Is there anyone else on here (Ealinggull?) who ever saw these guys performing................they were in their mid to late teens - or any info on them. They were really good Morris Men and certainly knew the game, so they couldn't have been a "one off" and must have performed around the pubs and "village greens" of Middlesex.
