Oxford United now join Crawley Town in the BSP "dock" and face a substantial points deduction unless they fail to appeal a punishment that is due to be announced tomorrow.
Not only are they "supported" by some of the league's most obnoxious fans - if scrutiny of the BSP Fans Forum is anything to go by (you'll find racism, constant reference to the BSP being tin pot and Mickey mouse for the self styled "Biggest Club" in the competition from their contibutors) - it seems they cannot even run their own football affairs properly and are facing a deduction of 11 (ELEVEN) points for fielding an ineligible player!
No wonder they appointed Chris Wilder as manager recently given his experience of running Halifax Town when they had a ten point deduction hanging around their neck
Crawley Town, who have a shameful history of points deductions and refusal to run their affairs in the accepted manner....................they have had points deducted for the past three seasons - are believed to be accepting the loss of 5 points for the same misdemeanour as Oxford without recourse to appeal.
Another shocking example of Crawley's lack of scruples is the revelation that they recently spent a fair amount of money bringing in three new signings when they owed and subsequently failed to pay their programme printers Queensway Publishing £16,000 and so had the embarrassment of having NO programme produced for their New Year's Day derby with Woking.
Good for Queensway's owner Lee Harding (who is chairman of Braintree Town) for showing them to be what they are and should the BSP be taking further action over Crawley showing yet more contempt and disregard for the reputation of it's member clubs by acting in this way?
I think they should, as their scandalous way of running their club only makes it harder for other small clubs to get the commercial credit facilities they all rely on to order goods and duly pay for them at the end of the month.
Chatting to someone involved at boardroom level with "another club" whilst at Weymouth on Boxing Day, I was told of another BSP club that had their coach to a recent away game recalled by the operating company just as they were due to set off on an overnight trip to a game and subsequently players' cars had to be utilised and yet another club where the programmes were witheld by the printing company for a recent home fixture.
Returning to the misdemeanour of ineligible players....................why does it take the BSP so long to realise that these players are in fact incorrectly registered or even not at all? Aren't team sheets properly scrutinised on the Monday morning following a Saturday game as they quite regularly are in amateur "recreational" leagues the length and breadth of the country?
All this palaver clearly does nothing for the professional image and standing of the BSP in the eyes of the supporting public and the commercial world that provides it's advertising and sponsorship flow.
