My view is categorically that it is now Sunday, the game is scheduled for Thursday and it is far too late to be even considering a postponement of 48 hours for the quite simple reason that commitments have already been made......................end of! Remember the time when OUR club was forced to play a cup game AND a League game on the same weekend? Swindon on the Friday night then onto Stockport for the Saturday.....................now THAT was ridiculous!

The Swindon and Stockport double-header was before my time, but I do remember back in 1991 us having an away game on the Saturday, then we played Aldershot on the Monday, Cardiff on the Wednesday and Hereford on the Saturday - all at home!!
Make them play Tuesday and Thursday!

Surely as our league fixture was already arranged, their trophy game should be pushed back to the midweek afterwards? The next round isn't until the 2nd of February so why the rush to get this tie played?
Is it too much to ask that the "powers that be" use a bit of common sense?

I was loathed to use the Non League Football forum as a source but according to one of the Wrexham fans on there, the game will now be played on FRIDAY at 7.45pm with it also still being covered live by Setanta. This confirmed now on Wrexham's .com www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10311~1516452,00.html Let's hope the fact it says 16th February is a typo given that that date is actually a Monday LOL

Nothing on .com, I do wonder why the club stated there would not be any news until Tuesday and yet Wrexham now have it on their site that the game has been moved.
If it is correct that it has been moved then the club should have said it will only play on Saturday, all those who have made plans will still have them mucked up now anyway and Saturday would have got a bigger gate.

I would guess the TV schedules of Setanta would have more bearing on whether or not it's Friday or Saturday Dave, if Setanta already have a Football League or Premiershite to broadcast on Saturday tea time that would provide the answer.

yes I'm sure its Friday as Setanta will still want to show the game live, I just feel the club would have been better off just having in on the Saturday, its a game I may well have to miss now, due to work as I have to go much further away on Friday to collect some work from a company who is a competitor as such, but not in the southwest so much, they have lost their man who mends the tools and we have agreed to help them out.

absolute disgrace.
Travel plans made, hotels booked etc and the authorities change it with a few days to go.
If any one party involved in this (ie: tufc or setanta etc) did not agree to this and were "ordered" to do it they should come out and say so. Otherwise everyone is at fault.
As usual the fans are shafted.
Shame on everyone involved.

As usual we will lose more in lost gate revenue than we get from Setanta. Football is for Saturdays and midweek, not Mondays Thursdays or Fridays.

Yeah, yeah, yeah; and years before football Saturdays were for working.. For goodness sake, move with the times AND realise that the further one looks down the pyramid one looks, the LESS secure and set in stone any fixture is until it has been played. It's a fact of life for us in 2009 and it's a fact of life in the BSP. I personally didn't want to see the game moved from Thursday at such short notice, but the powers that be have HAD to work within the confines of getting the fixtures in at all, keeping the FA Trophy on course (and it WAS devastated on Saturday and many of those clubs including Wrexham's opponents Basingstoke are part time remember) and maintaining the confidence and contractual requirements of Setanta.

Its clear after reading the Herald Express today, that football is now run by the TV companies and I have to ask, is that a good thing for the game?
Both Torquay and Wrexham would have preferred to play the game on the Saturday and were even prepared to have a teatime kick off,But Setanta have the rights to Arsenal's Premiership match away to Hull City on Saturday, which has a 5.30pm kick-off.
At the game on Saturday we were told that there would be no news given out on when the game would be played, until it was known if the Wrexham game was going ahead. Yet Wrexham phoned the club on Sunday to inform then, that the game was now going ahead on the Friday.
I know some will feel that modern day football should be played on any day these days, but its clear the clubs no longer have any say as to when games are played. I do think its been good having games on Setanta and as I will not get to the game, but hope to be home not long after the kick off, I will get to see it and I would not have otherwise.
I still question the power the TV companies seem to have and wonder if and when we go up, we may be glad that in Div 2, we should not have the problems of having no real say in when we play games.

I dont really see how anybody but Wrexham can be blamed for getting the game moved in the first place. (although I know that their game tonight is due to the weather on Saturday) Setanta have paid for the rights to show this game live, and therefore have to be able to have some sort of say as to when the game is going to be played in order for them to acocunt for it in their schedules. As it is this game was rescheduled fairly early in the season to the Thursday, certainly a lot more notice was given this time around than some were last season (or so it seemed) The fact is that Wrexham requested the game to be rescheduled so they wouldnt have to play 2 games in 2 days, putting everybody in a bit of a tight spot given the close proximity to the date. I think that our club should have told them tough, we have sorted out everything, the game is live on the tv and thats that. Setanta have obviously been told of Wrexhams request to move the game, and have offered them the next available date, which happens to be Friday. I suppose they COULD have shown the game on the Saturday evening at 5.30, on Setanta Sports 2, but then they would be guilty of going back on their deal that stated they would always shown BSP games on SS1. The bigger money in terms of sponsership will be obviously from the Premiership game, and therefore they will be unwilling to lose, or move that game, and besides it is far too short notice for that anyway.
No, the team to blame in this situation are Wrexham I'm afraid to say......and the people to lose out are, once again, the fans.

Its clear after reading the Herald Express today, that football is now run by the TV companies Wasn't like that in good old David Vine's days at Westward, was it? Just been reading his obituary in the paper, he died yesterday aged 74. Always knew he grew up in Barnstaple but never realised he was born in good old Newton Abbot. The obituary mentions his time at Westward TV (1962-66) and credits him with getting their sports coverage off the ground. I guess he must have been aided and abetted by the legendary Don Arnold. Those were the days! Sun getting in the lens; film running out at the crucial moment; plenty of coverage of obscure hill climbs because they were easier to "film" (that was the operative word) and edit than football. It all seems as long ago as silent movies and - when you think about it - it really was the start of regional sports coverage on a regular basis. It seemed amateurish even at the time but, given the resources, the likes of David Vine were at least making the effort. Good luck to him for all he achieved. After David Vine, there was - I believe - Gary Newbon, another on his way to the big time. Then Chris Fear, one of the lesser-lights, who I understand died a few years ago. To be honest he wasn't the sharpest and I remember writing an angry letter to him once demanding he checked his facts before opening his mouth. This came after he predicted that Torquay would " once again go to the Football League, cap in hand, begging for votes". Well we didn't and nor had we, at the time, done so since 1928. Football on the telly? It's a bit different now.
