I love to watch Ronaldo play his football at Manchester United, he is pure entertainment and also played a big part in Man U's success on the field last season. But I do question just how much players like him get paid and ask just why has it got so out of control. Yesterday we wrote of his new car a £200k Ferrari after the crash he carry's on to the training ground, while a family member dropped of Ronaldo's £150k Bentley so he can drive home. Yes he is all smiles after the crash, but as he earns £110k a week, why should he worry. I would expect even our best payed player would need to play for two years, just to make what Ronaldo earns in a week, unless that is we are paying much better wages than I thought.

You have to ask is any player or person worth that sort of wages, when you think how many working people are losing their jobs or are about too and won't even be able to afford to go to a game, you can't but help feel, the wages for some football players, are now really out of control

Its absolutely crazy.
No one deserves that amount of money for playing a game.
Its about time a maximum wage was introduced.....£500,000 a week is just obscene.

In Fairness to Kaka he has always given 50% of his wage to his church. So its a mere 250k per week for this poor soul

Well no surprise really that I listened to a debate on the J.Vine show today (bbc radio2) all about Kaka. As you might expect there were not many people who agreed with such a larger transfer fee, or about the size of the wages being offered.
So many felt that as the credit crunch is now starting to bite so many people that this deal was a disgrace and a slap in the face to those who may lose their homes etc. Some felt that those Man City fans who were just about able to afford to watch a game, would feel unhappy as such obscene wages these days, are the reason so many true fans can no longer watch their team anymore.
One man was something to do with fair wages, he seemed to be in the know and claimed that the owner of Man City was not paying all the normal staff at Man City a decent working wage, claiming that the club could not afford it, like he said its a real insult to those who slave for the club and get poor wages, to see the club offer Kaka nearly two million pounds a month.

What the incredibly rich Sheikh who owns Manchester City cares to pay his employees doesn't greatly interest me, how he cares to spend his money is his business but if some Manchester City fans decide they don't wish to fork out to enter Eastlands to watch, Robinho, Kaka or the other world class talent likely to arrive there in the future that will be most beneficial to the smaller clubs in the area. The greater Manchester area is well served by football clubs & if Bury ,Rochdale and Stockport pick up some additional supporters that will be great news, those clubs really need the money that increased gates would bring them. What I do object to however is my money being used to pay an over inflated salary to Jeremy Vine for jabbering on for a couple of hours on the radio & playing records. I don't listen to his show nor do I have any desire to do so but I do have to compulsorily contribute a large amount of money to the BBC even though I might tune in only once a week for 'Songs of Praise'. We are extremely lucky to have some of the worlds greatest footballers plying their trade in this country & personally I enjoy their skills while realising no player gets more money than a Club has been willing to pay him. No doubt much of the music played by Jeremy Vine is from those who get paid astronomical sums of money by their record companys but if we start obsessing about that would it spoil our enjoyment of the music ? If Cliff Richard does nothing but play tennis all year & then makes one 4 minute record each Christmas he will still be rewarded handsomely.... at least footballers get kicked from pillar to post to earn their money There are plenty who feel the amount of money put in by the Consortium is madness given the numbers that turn up to watch football at Plainmoor, but thankfully they are free to do so, the Sheik is free to spend his money on Kaka, & little old ladies are free to leave their millions to the Cats Protection League (who will promptly lose it all in Iceland, but thats another argument). Until the State grabs all our money to use it on bailing out the Banks or diverting our lottery cash to the Tower Hamlets Lesbian Collective we can still for the moment spend our own money in as sensible or as foolish a way as we want, long may that continue.

alpinejoe, the views in my post were those who gave them on the J.Vine show, I do think for many football fans, its not that they decide they don't wish to fork out, but are simply now out priced. The point about the staff at Man City was that they get paid very poor wages and it just may seem to some very unfair.
We all have to pay for a TV license and should we have to, or should the BBC go commercial is another argument, but I think at the end of the day I get great entertainment value from the BBC. I would not think J.Vine gets an over inflated salary, yes the likes of Johnathan Ross do and I do not agree with the money he gets paid. Most of the music is from the 60's and 70's and only a few of those entertainers are rich today, many will be working selling insurance or maybe cars.
I have the radio on all day as I'm on the road, it keeps me company and I hear music I love and get to hear some great debates, millions of people enjoy what I'm enjoying at the same time and for me that has to be much better value than one footballer at 100k, plus 2 grand a month in wages.
