I have to admit with all the sadness and military conflict with peace loving Ukrainians, unwilling conscripted Russian soldiers dying by the thousand and by the hour, discussing football seems rather a rather trivial and hollow subject.
It is however a distraction and does, at least offer relief for those who haven't got their heads buried in the sand, from the tragic news of death and destruction we are now witnessing.
This obscene conflict has, along with the Covid pandemic affected me and and my life long (55 years) emotional connection with the club and football in general.
As pleased as I was to witness the minutes applause yesterday I was equally displeased with the Chelsea crowds pre match response.
Just one more episode that has the affect of me falling out of love with the game. Tuchell rightfully condemning the moronic and ignorant response of hopefully a minority of Chelsea football supporters who have ridden the wave of on pitch success built on lies and Putin's corrupt Russian money.
Nothing Personal you understand Roman but....the problem I have is that your best mate who set you up in business to make your billions at the expense of your countrymen and women is murdering families and children and pillaging a sovereign country. Way down the list of priorities for some.. Ah right Chelsea football club is more important I get it now. When Putin presses the Nuclear button, in the few seconds some football supporters have left on this earth they may, just for a split second have less sympathy. Crooked money made it happen for Chelsea aided and abetted by our own culpable government. It's all coming home to roost and the world is suddenly on course to pay a massive price.
Make no mistake the unfolding tragedy in Ukraine will affect us all for many years to come - that's if Europe and the west survive a trigger happy dictator with the capability to wipe out humanity at the press of a button and who appears to be on a suicide mission.
Just 1500 miles away from our island this horror show, this nightmare is being played out - on our own doorstep in modern terms but far enough away for some to believe its not their problem. For the time being we can just get on with our normal lives but what would we as individuals do if this was happening to us?
Putin has been softening up the West for decades. Infiltrating our government and invited to invest huge sums of corrupt Oligarchs money and bribes.
A long game. Our leaders sucked in by public apathy and greed We simply couldn't resist the temptation could we?
We haven't learned a single thing from history have we and fear we will soon discover what the true price is.
