Hi I hope you don't mind me coming on here im a Hartlepool fan and was looking for a bit of Torquay past information?
My cousin used to play for you lot in the 80's and a few of you older lot might remember the name Paul Dobson.
I can't find any statistics on his goal per game ratio when he played for you when I looked on Wikipedia it doesn't say, I was just wondering if anyone could help

42 goals in 96 appearances in all competitions (38 in 77 league appearances) as per Torquayfanstats, putting him 24th on our all time top scorers list. www.torquayfanstats.com/all-goalscorersDobbo was before my time but he is certainly talked of very fondly by those who watched him play for us. He of course scored the goal that kept us in the league in 1986! Our more history minded supporters don't log on every day so check back in a day or so and I'm sure someone will have more to say on the subject.

Remember Dobbo?
As Jerry says he scored the goal that kept us in the league in 1987. He then very nearly got us promoted the following year. Much loved by everyone who was around at the time. Have you seen the Netffix documentary with him on? A must see.

Had to watch some of this old footage. Some great players from Cyrils magical era. I had forgotten how well we played in that second leg at Spurs. They certainly knew they had been in a game despite the 3-0 scoreline. The game looked so much different back then real blood and guts encounters two footed challenges all over the place on poor muddy pitches. Miss that "gladiatorial" aspect. The modern game is a dumbed down version missing the tempo, hunger and commitment I see in this old footage. No more John Impey's or Dave Caldwells to stir the blood. Quite sad. Dobbo was very well thought of and had that goal scoring knack of being in the right place at the right time his main asset being his positional sense.

I watched the Netflix programme and to be honest I was shocked when I seen our Paul !
The last time I seen him was at our gran funeral about 15 years ago and he was his usual self laughing and joking when we went for a drink afterwards.
I've not seen him since as he lives out of town but I see his sister and Dobba is not in good health at all

I’ve always felt that Crewe gave us that equaliser. I remember their players in a huddle as Jim McNichol was getting treatment and I don’t know why but something about their body language at the time gave me a glimmer of hope. The atmosphere was threatening to get nasty if we’d lost and I always wondered if they were fearful of how they’d get out alive if Torquay lost and went down.
The Crewe defence could not have put that more on a plate for Paul Dobson if they’d tried. Had they wanted to win the game with seconds remaining, I doubt that player would have dribbled the ball back into his own goal area; he’d have lumped it forward.
I may be wrong in this theory but it’s something I’ve always thought even 35 years later.
