I remember my dad phoning with such unbridled excitement when Neil Warnock was appointed but it could clearly never have been a long-term appointment (as Mike Bateson was at pains to point out) probably because he wasn’t the sort of manager who could be told what to do and during that era obedience tended to be a more important prerequisite than being any good at the job.
I’m assuming Neil Lemon is Neil Lennon and also Steve Walters - formerly of Dawlish - was part of the Crewe team (although unknown to most at that time had been through some awful experiences alongside some other youth team players).
