If the date of this game 10 October 1992 is correct then the Flash Back - On This Day section is definitely wrong for 1969. It says Alan Welsh scored in a 4-1 win away to Walsall. On 10 October 1969 I was playing with Alan Welsh at Plainmoor. He did score the 2nd in a 2-0 win against Glastonbury. The first team that day did have a good away win, 4-0 at Barrow ⚽️

Result: 2-2 Joyce, Foster Attendance: 2354 Can anyone remember why this one kicked off at the strange time of 6.30? Thought it might be a typo, but double-checked and it did. No obvious conuter-attraction that I can think of. |

My money would be on my old friend John Lovis getting the date right and this somehow getting lost in translation between his pen and the programme! |

I had wondered if there was an England fixture - not that I can see one - but there doesn’t appear to have been any Premiership games on that day according to soccerbase but England did have a game on the 14th so in theory there may also have been a match on the Saturday before that the club didn’t want to clash with but I can’t find any evidence of one. |

...and I saw Chesterfield beat Halifax 5-0 at Saltergate. It was definitely 1970. In 1969 the Spireites were still in the 4th division.
Halifax went on to finish third in Division Three, with Chesterfield 5th. The team sandwiched between the two was the mighty Aston Villa.
