It's a funny old game...looked lost for 88 minutes...then looked like world beaters. Gary time. What a turnaround.

Indeed, only saw the second and looked a tight match before that. Knock me down with a feather….

TUFC match reportGaffer post match reportsRecorded the match myself so will have a look in the morning but from what I saw liked the look of Addai and good to see both Little and Lapslie back to counterbalance the loss of CLE and ultimately it was down to those two that we got the draw. Another confidence booster though.

Agree rjdgull...liked the look of Addai..maybe not fully fit yet..but looks like he has a bit of pace and trickery.

I don't think anyone would have given us a chance of anything from the game with five minutes of normal time remaining but we kept going and improved with the changes Addie in particular adding the direct style of play thats been missing for a good while. While we defended with spirit in the first half we offered little threat going forward and only last ditch tackles mainly from Ben Wynter saved the day. Easily the stand out defender of the first half and nice to see him getting his game together. I thought Lolos did ok and was our main threat in that period. Danny Wright battled but didn't have a great game and despite all the huffing and puffing the we lacked quality and experince in the wide areas to really threaten. At 2-0 and just a few minutes on the clock remaining it looked like game over and a predictable result against the unbeaten table toppers but hang on Chesterfield all of a sudden stopped what they were doing well, gave us space to attack and suddenly found themselves nervously holding on. Our first goal was our best move of the game with Holdenslippingh in Armani in the box for him to side step a defender and finish well. Encouraged and with nothing to lose we committed even more forward for a last minute of injury tinme corner even MacDonald was up there. A good corner right into the melting pot and we had bodies causing problems and Lasplie getting a somewhat fortuitous touch in the direction of goal for our equaliser. My verdict is we have too man players starting who have little experience at this level and are learning the game and how to be consistent. I no longer see the energy high pressing game that has brought us success and entertainment under GJ's regime. We simply no longer have that type of player available to us though I'm hoping Addie will give us a little more in that area when fully fit. I like his direct style and running at defenders. Plenty of work to do but signs of improvement and a more disciplined defensive display which we must still improve on.

A good corner right into the melting pot and we had bodies causing problems and Lasplie getting a somewhat fortuitous touch in the direction of goal for our equaliser. I thought the same and was incandescent with rage as BT Sport tried to give the goal as a Weston OG. But on about the 7th replay I realised that the ball had bounced off Lapslie's hip and hit Weston's foot as it fell to the ground, diverting towards the goal. Weston tried to clear but was only able to slam the ball into the roof of the net. As much as the Yellow Army (including me!) would like Lapslie to claim the goal, his contact was sending the ball past the post for a goal-kick until Weston intervened. I'll have to check next season's Rothmans Sky Sports Sun Utilita Football Yearbook to see who the Dubious Goals Committee has officially given the goal to!

I suppose the good news is most importantly the change of formation has seen us tighten up defensively and compensate for the loss of Sherring. Winter and Moxey have done well and seem to suit playing in the back three with Lewis in the middle. Think we also need three out of Hall, Lapslie, Little and CLE and possibly Andrews to give a measure of control in midfield and more service to the front two.

[/quote] Thanks for that, just done the replay thing and you are spot-on. Looks like the goal has been credited to Lapslie though. Lovely delivered corner which went over the heads of the blocking near post defenders to land on the hip of the smallest man on the pitch. Lapslie had just been shoved forward by their keeper and at least diverted the ball goalwards from close range to where anything can happen. Even after the goal celebrations nice to see that Tom still had his shirt tucked in.

Following up on the Torquay formation discussion...it was disappointing not to see Johnson getting more help down defensively...he was getting absolutely roasted by Miller who looked a quality player. Finally Johnson got subbed off to prevent the inevitable second yellow. We should have doubled up on Miller from the get go. He created both their goals and caused problems all day.

Good first goal from us…very cool, calm and collected in the box. It has been mentioned that our second goal was going wide before the intervention of a Chesterfield player, personally, I think the ball was goal bound hence the attempt to kick the ball over row z! Though of course I know nothing about football so I could be wrong.
Nice to see the away fans actually in the away end, every time I’ve been there we were stuck on the side.
Also nice to see that away shirt we were wearing, anything to get away from yellow! I couldn’t see that awful number blazoned all over the front of the shirt either, so hopefully we’ve moved on from that. 🙏

Was away for the weekend, but recorded the game and managed to watch it without hearing the score. Meant I had the full pain of staring defeat in the face, but the full effect of Gary time joy. Our first goal was a joy to behold - a sublime pass from Holman and a cool finish from Little. It seemed a long way back after that dreadful Woking game and we weren't going to become a top of the table side overnight from that dreadful low. I did hope we would dig in and try to slowly scrap our way back into some kind of form. Pleased to say that we are doing just that. Still far from perfect but much improved from where we were - and importantly we have a squad that wants to turn the tide and is prepared to work hard to do so. Unimpressed by BT coverage - not as good as our streaming last season. Their obsession with showing the crowd, the managers and constant action replays leads to them missing action. They very nearly missed our equaliser all together, rejoining the action just as the ball struck Lapslie. We had to wait for the replays to even know that Super Shaun had gone up for the corner. On top of that, they repeated several times that we had a Tuesday match coming up which was wrong. Could be back three with Rogers in the hole. Could be 4-4-2 with Rogers and O’ Connell wide. Not helped by the BT camera angles, but it was almost a bit of both. I would say a back three, but with a back three when one wing back pushes up the other drops back and the centre-backs shuffle across. O'Connell was pushed up almost all of the time, leading Johnson to drop back to almost become an orthodox right back, Moxey to shuffle over to almost become an orthodox left back leaving Wynter and Lewis in the centre. Rogers was definitely central not wide right so not a 4-4-2 - or if it was it was a very lop-sided one. The result was that my fears that O'Connell would be the weak defensive link were not realised as we had Moxey and O'Connell double-banked on the left for most of the game. In contrast Johnson was left exposed and unprotected and that right side weakness was the cause of both Chesterfield goals. In my opinion, however you shuffle the cards, two out and out strikers is a luxury we could ill afford. We could have filled that void on the right in two ways. Either pull one of the strikers (Lolos) wide right or pull Rogers wide right and have a striker who could drop back to help in midfield. Lemon who is ideal for that was injured but Little or Rogers could play as withdrawn second striker. Would have liked to see Lapslie start, but I appreciate there were probably reasons for managing his pitch time. Very happy with four points from two games but we need three points on Saturday so we can start looking up at the play-off places rather than over our shoulder.
