I think that was a low under the Johnson era today with the game effectively over after 25 minutes, Game over after 4 minutes! Our first proper strike on goal - 1624 First proper move with the threat on goal - 90 + 1

I feel this is another disappointing attendance. I know our gates are higher when we play former EFL sides, but the 2422 home fans against Altrincham felt low given the hype about the return of unrestricted attendance of spectators, and the 2282 against Woking given our recent rivalry with them and coming so soon after the Notts County result and on a bank holiday to boot is very disappointing. This can't all be down to the club putting barriers in people's way to attend, e.g. no tickets after 2pm etc.

Sign up their CF - Campbell?
Mind you I thought that that the Little chap had a fantastic game for Woking against us. Never been the same since ☹️

Game over after 4 minutes..season over after 3 games? Let's hope not. Think it is time to look up the road and see the success Exeter have had in developing young players and selling on at a nice profit. Not a bad template to follow.

Sorry Rob, just can’t. Has to be one of the worse matches in the last 10 years or so.

Sorry Rob, just can’t. Has to be one of the worse matches in the last 10 years or so. It was bad. Oh, it was bad. I remember a visit to Nuneaton in March 2015 which was little short of abysmal. A worse performance than I saw on Monday. But that was away which many of the Pop Side wouldn't have been able to go to (lucky them!). The only other game I saw that season was turgid 1-1 draw with Dartford at Plainmoor on Easter Saturday. That was bad, so very bad. Was 2016/17 much worse? I saw 5 games that season, two of them at home the final one being the last day of the season at home to North Ferriby as part of the Great Escape (parts 1, 2 or 3 I can't now recall). Whatever was the problem that season, I didn't see any game the following season (the relegation one). The next game I saw was almost two years later, away to Hemel Hempstead in Feb 2019 and I was simply stunned by the quick movement and one-touch passing that the Gulls were showing off. We won 4-1 that game and obviously went on to promotion. On Monday I saw a lot of long balls hoofed clear to two strikers who aren't at their best in the air (and yes, Danny Wright scores a few with his head). Compare that to even last season when our game was all about quick passing on the ground to space where team-mates would appear. Chalk and cheese to this season. I'm not going to analyse our home games this season, you've all seen them. For me the major issue is the disorganisation of the back eight. The midfield aren't protecting the back four and we are being over-run at the edge of our area. I don't think the back four has played THAT badly (not particularly well, but not that badly). But what can they do when they have to mark two players each. I've now seen four goals conceded from just in front of me (Family Stand end of Pop Side) and all are identical: full back blocks winger who passes back to unmarked right-back/right midfielder who crosses into danger area. Yes, the receiving player is completely unmarked on each occasion (probably, I can't bear to watch them back); but who is stopping the crosses once our full back is over-committed?

I always say don't get too up when we play brilliantly and don't get too down when we play awfully. This was a performance to put that mantra to the test!
A shocking performance.
I expected that it might be a bit "after the Lord Mayor's Show" after the heroics at Notts County, but I did expect us to be disciplined and determined if a little jaded. A draw would not have surprised me, but I hoped we would scrape a narrow win.
We were neither disciplined nor determined and were very lucky to get away with 4-0.
I expected Woking to be the spoilers hoping to scrape a result by stopping us play. When we gifted them a 2-0 lead, I was sure they would "game manage" / time waste just as we had at Notts County.
How wrong I was! They were enjoying themselves. They did not need to stop us playing as we stopped ourselves playing.
No doubt about Johnson's red. Utter stupidity on his part. Little did his very best to talk himself into a red card - he was lucky the ref was lenient.
It should have been good news to see Hall and Lemonheigh-Evans on the teamsheet, but I worried whether either was really fit. Neither of them was. I also worried that sticking the Lemon wide left unbalanced the team. It did.
I though Lapslie was due a rest after his efforts at County, but we were crying out for him to add some steel to midfield - particularly as Hall was clearly off the pace and we were down to ten men. Got to wonder if he was unfit and just making up the numbers on the bench.
I explained away the Altrincham result as being undercooked in pre-season. This one was more than just two tough games in three days weariness. Excuses have run out - improvement required.
I don't think we can afford two up top for now. Holman can weave his goalscoring magic from the bench. Hall (if fit) and Lapslie (if fit) as a solid two, Lemon (if fit) behind Wright. Need some real pace on one flank - loanee please. Rogers, Andrews (if fit) or O'Connell on the other.
A lot of "if fits" in there!

Well putting this all together I will not be attending Plainmoor for a while. I go to matches to see Torquay giving a good account of themselves on the pitch and to enjoy a reasonably friendly atmosphere. I have better, more enjoyable things to do on my Saturday afternoons. I will not be returning until there is a marked improvement both on and off the pitch. Very sad to read this Swanny. I hope you think again when the pain of Monday has worn off. I would miss you - and your famous match reports! If we gave up after a shit performance, we would all have given up long ago! I fully understand your disgust at the behaviour of the minority - we have discussed our disbelief at the boorishness of some Hartlepool supporters at Ashton Gate. Torquay United also has some "fans" to be ashamed of. But never forget that the idiots are a tiny minority - at Torquay, at Hartlepool and at just about every other club. The majority of us support our team and respect those who support their local team rather than pretend to be Man United fans from their sofa. Don't surrender to the mindless minority. We cannot afford to let them win. Come on you Yellows!

I didn't see the Woking game...but hard to believe it could have been any worse than many of the games during the David Webb era. We were woeful at that time...looked like a pub team.

Apparently CLE had found his perfect position last season as a 10 operating with a single striker. So what happens this season - an abandonment of that scheme? While Holman has had plenty of opportunities over the two games I have seen, he has rarely managed to get the ball out from under his feet in time to get a shot off before a defender gets a block in. He's not finding the space he needs, so I wonder if Wright starting with CLE just behind him, and Holman to come on after an hour to up the energy levels, is a better strategy. It can't be any worse than what we've already seen.....

If you need a change of scenery, come and join us on the Pop. The good think with standing is that if somebody irritates the **** out of you, you can just move away from them. Mind you, I have been trying to do this for years and every time I move Chelston follows me!
