My first look at the squad today in a genuinely competitive match that will be hard fought as most teams will be up for any challenges on the first day of the season and will want to get something from the game.
Are we stronger or weaker than last term? We wont be able to make a judgement on that for a little while but lets all hope stronger.
Optimistic as usual and decent weather despite the forecast.

Really looking forward to this one.
Tough to judge how ready we are due to the strange pre-season schedule caused by all the leagues starting on different dates.
Cautiously optimistic, but am sure Alty will be a handful, so anything less than 100% will see us getting found out.
Hope to see Wright and Holman up top. If the Lemon is fit we have a problem where to fit him in.
I don't like buggaring about with back 3s or diamonds and he is wasted wide right.
My answer would be leave Little out but I do not think that will happen!
If no Lemon, I agree with Rob there is one wide place up for grabs - between Rogers, Martin, Andrews and Lolos. Would prefer to keep Lolos as a bench option as I think he is better through the middle.
Will we be surprised by a last minute loanee? If not, I think we just about have enough to make a decent matchday squad even if Hall and Lemon are missing.

Covid has just accelerated this trend by a few years. I cannot for the life of me see the logic in stopping selling tickets an hour before kickoff. That does not help with Covid in any way. It just pisses off customers and potential customers. Very few businesses can afford to piss off customers. We certainly can't! Daft that the food concession is cash only, but that is a separate franchise so they make their own arrangements and their own rules. It does make a mockery of the health and safety argument when people are handling cash and handling food!

link - line up out - straight forward 4-4-2 with Rogers and O’Connell on the wings. Hall on bench but no sign of CLE, likely still injured.

Two down in 19 minutes. Oh well there is always next season! We should throw all our resources into winning the FA Trophy this year 😉⚽️

Guy in front of us in the queue was turned away as he didn’t have a ticket and you do wonder whether a slightly low opening gate could’ve been higher?.
Off to have a curry now so will do a proper report later but to summarise poor defending, didn’t get our passing game going at all or work as a team with Alty making it very scrappy. lots to work on but some good individual performances in there and something for Johnson to work on,

A dreadful performance and result to start the season and I have no complaints about the score line. Torquay looked too open at the back, we were very workmanlike going forward and had no cutting edge up front. Our goal only came from a hastily sliced kick from an Alty defender that went in! A friend of mine remarked that our team consists of either has-beens or youngsters who are not used to this level. I feel there is some truth in that. In Wright and Holman, we have no pace up front and you feel their best days are behind them. I don't understand how Wright was made sponsors MOTM? The crowd was a decent 2,599 and there was a decent atmosphere back at Plainmoor.
Torquay started brightly enough and Rogers on the right wing showed plenty of promise on the ball. However from Alty's first meaningful attack they scored. A cross came over and their attacker had far too much space take his time in controlling the ball and putting it away. He clearly controlled it with his hand at one stage and I expected the goal to be disallowed. The referee or his assistant didn't spot it and the goal stood. Five minutes later O'Connoll tried to usher the ball out of play and got robbed. The ball was crossed and again our defence was wide open and it was an easy finish. Our keeper Halstead first two touches were picking the ball out of the net!
Torquay's early promise disintegrated and to be quite frank Torquay huffed and puffed for the rest of the game. There was little evidence of any pace or flair to open up the opposition. Torquay did rally towards the end of the first half but corners were typically dreadful going behind everyone out of play and players at times seemed on a different wavelength to each other with moves breaking down. Alty had a couple of decent chances early in the second half and Halstead actually made a save.
Torquay made a double substitution and it was good to see Hall come on. Soon after Torquay scored thanks to a comical own goal. Torquay pushed forward but looked vulnerable at the back. Halstead saved a 1-on-1 but later on Alty made space for themselves and struck the ball sweetly to finish the game off. No complaints from me, they fully deserved their win. As for ourselves, it does not bode well for the season. We desperately lacked the flair, pace and quality we had last season and let's hope Lemonheigh-Evans and Andrews return soon. The truth is it will be difficult to replace those who left the club like Cameron, Nemane and Whitfield and that showed today. From today's performance I am not convinced we have enough quality to mount any sort of promotion challenge. Yes, it's early days and the team needs to gel but there were worrying signs today.

So so poor today. Are any of us really surprised after the quality we have lost and the cohesion and spirit we had last season? Thought we missed Cameron, Whitfield, Nemane, Sherring, Evans, Andrews, Waters, Buse, Kimpioka and Sherring today ! The worst thing to happen to us was making and then losing that bloody play off final.. I was surprised though that we were "so poor" today and thought we would at least hold our own against a very average side that "also" look set to struggle. Danny Wright our best forward without doubt but had no support around him or service it was all too easy for Alty who robbed us of the ball on numerous occasions. Lightweight in midfield where we we were particularly strong last term, both wide men didn't cover the ground defensively. Little, captain for the day and Lapslie, who I was hoping would be a revelation were very poor as a pairing and the wide men having no joy at all. Little looks a luxury at this level and needs physical battlers along side him for him to perform. His first half corners one after the other hity to long or out of play. Unforgivable. We looked like a side thrown together in haste today and my biggest fears were realised in a truly dreadful opening period when we conceded two extremely sloppy goals. Gaps opening up all over and possession lost far too easily in crucial areas. Can't say I was impressed with any of the new faces. Omar looks a slightly better version of Niate Lewis is a battler but I didn't think he looked comfortable alongside Omar who is strong in the air but offered little else . Wynter never got forward or looked confident all game until Hall arrived on the pitch who instantly added some quality and threat to our play. Moxey did ok but lacks pace and both first half goals came from his side. Holman despite working hard was pretty much ineffective. Not sure what to make of the keeper certainly not the quality were used to but in fairness was left exposed for all of the goals. Early days but there was an awful lot wrong with our performance today and I'm not really sure where the manager begins to correct things in what was one of the lowest and non cohesive performances I've witnessed for a very long time. Positives er not many. Danny Wright was up for it and put in a performance and Asa brought some quality in the important areas just behind the forwards in his short cameo ---That's about it. Notts County and "Agent Cam" next week how did they get on today?

With so many new faces not expecting a fast start to the season. Hopefully good enough for top 7.

I have felt before the season started, when filling in predictions leagues etc, that 9th is about where we will finish but if that game was going to typify our season then 9th would be hugely ambitious.

Cameron and unused sub Nemane next week. Expecting a pummelling, but hoping to be surprised. I saw Jake Bugg at Travelling Feast last week. And he was rubbish. Unfortunately he won’t be playing for them.

Well this result wasn't unexpected bearing in mind our Curry Night and the appearance on the popside of Jonah Crooky!
Much has been talked here and else where of Little. He's not the man I saw pull the stings for Woking a few seasons ago. While he worked hard his set pieces were overhit and poor. IMO he is prone to rash tackles (lucky not be sent off yesterday) and these can tackles can result in giving goals away. His second tackle 'resulted' in a poor decision not to boot the ball into next week and bingo two down in the first twenty minutes.
Thought Altringham played the ball well and on the ground and within 3 or 4 passes were knocking on our goal. Our tactics were to lump the ball high, which were meat and drink to the CB's.
Would have though the subs should have been on earlier (was the first two on 70 minutes or so) and the former Plymouth lad on at the death.
The FA need to sort this time wasting out. Why not start the clock on 45 and count down. Stop the clock for fouls, throws etc.
