It’s felt a bit strange to have no football in the national league on Saturday with all the other leagues around us playing so looking forward to finally starting the season. It looks like we will be having an in-house friendly match at the start of the week with both Hall and CLE hoping to be fit - link. It may mean both are available for this game if only on the bench with maybe CLE out of the two possibly able to start. Altrincham ironically were our opponents in the last league match the previous season which was a dead rubber for us and predictably was a scoreless draw. The game before that was a loss earlier in the year during that run of games with our injury crisis. We don’t generally lose many games to them but their dangerman to look out for seems to be Ryan Colclough, 26 year old winger with plenty of experience at league one level with Crewe, Wigan and Scunthorpe. It will be interesting to see how Johnson‘s new look team will lineup for the first game with those who also played in the play-off final likely to be Moxey Lewis, Wynter, Little, Wright and possibly CLE. I think they will be joined by Halstead, Omar, Lapslie,Holman and O’Connell and one of the wide spots up for grabs if 4-4-2. Could 3-5-2 be a thing with Wynter and Martin as wing backs and Moxey moving to the left of a back three? Would allow CLE to roam behind Wright and Holman in front of Little and Lapslie. With this game followed up against Nott County the week after then hopefully we will get off to a good start.

So it begins, the great battle of our times…ok, somewhat dramatic opening!
This is the start of a new season for us, but we’re coming to the end of a certain persons timescale on the future of the club. It seems that Osborne has forgiven us for the insanity of last season, but will he be so forgiving if it happens again? Especially if it coincides with his five year plan for the club.
So, yet another enthralling season for TUFC fans…on and off the pitch!
We start at home to Altrincham, one of the least favoured clubs this season, so if we can’t manage to sweep them aside…it’s gonna be a loooong season!

A reminder that tickets cannot be purchased at the turnstiles and need to be purchased at least one hour before the match with the online system available HERE. Tickets can be purchased over the phone. I worry about the potential chaos this could cause for this first match on Saturday.

Are they still persisting with the "no tickets on the gate" idiocy? Here's a question for the club. Why are we not able to pay at the turnstile? Tell us, give us 1 good reason.
I can't think of any good reason why Fans can't pay on the gate.

I can't think of any good reason why Fans can't pay on the gate. Probably worth copying in here what was said on the TUST thread…… TUST has now received the following response from the club’s directors: ‘The health and safety of all our players, staff, supporters and community is the most important thing for the Board. TUST members have acknowledged that during COVID-19 Plainmoor was a safe place to be at. The Club has worked very closely with Torbay Council and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) to ensure every stakeholder of the Club is safe, and this approach will not be compromised, which I am sure you will be in full agreement with. Last season we invested in a new online ticketing system platform, to enable details for track and trace to be obtained, tickets had to be purchased online, or over the phone for all the games, with the turnstiles being cashless. This was in the interests of the Club, the staff, the supporters and the community. This ensured that there was not long queues at turnstiles, as supporters just showed their QR code, and were scanned into the ground, so it improved their matchday experience. We received great feedback from Council representatives, supporters and TUST for providing a safe environment during COVID-19. A Pandemic that has not disappeared. Due to the positive feedback we had, and in the interests of public health, the Club in consultation with the Safety Advisory Group, made the decision to remain with cashless turnstiles in the best interests of all stakeholders. Tickets are available online, or over the phone, or on the day from the ticket office up to an hour before kick-off, so there is no discrimination. We believe that this decision does not deter casual supporters, as on the day supporters can order tickets online, or in person at the ticket office, up to an hour before kick-off, if a supporter wants to go and only decides on the day then they can purchase tickets. Therefore, if someone is in a hotel in the town centre, they can purchase a ticket online and then come to the ground 10 minutes before kick-off. The majority of hotels in the bay, are booked online, and it is very pleasing to see that the majority are full. When booking a hotel or restaurant or going to an event, the majority plan and book in advance, in order to avoid disappointment, demonstrating that online booking is the new way We have invested in infrastructure around all turnstiles, in order to provide the most efficient and safest environment for entering the ground. To be able to purchase a ticket by cash or by credit card at the turnstiles does not allow the Club to obtain the information they require for track and trace, therefore, putting at risk our staff, are valued supporters and the community. It also reduces the risk of close contact in queuing in the last hour, as well as reducing any likelihood of crowd disturbance. The Safety Advisory Group, as you know includes the local emergency services, and we work together in order to protect and look after our local community. During the past 12 months, the Club had been under pressure by our supporters to relax COVID-19 measures in the ground, such as the mandatory wearing of face coverings, however, we stuck to our agreed protocols in the best interest of all concerned and the Torbay community, all the decisions made by the Club in consultation with SAG are in the best interests of the Torbay community, not ourselves, and we don’t believe this approach should be compromised. I trust this explains the match day ticket protocols we have put in place.’

Cash is king, use it or lose it.

What a surprise, it's a SAGE and local authority jobsworth decision. Doublespeak nonsense.

For me, the introduction of this system works really well as I rarely use cash anymore and can get a ticket emailed and while I’m fortunate enough to be able to have season tickets, I like being able to book tickets for family and friends so they then can have seats close by and of course used the system for the preseason friendlies. I also get why this was brought in due to the Covid protocols, spreading out the time of entry into the ground and using the information for track and trace although our club has gone over and beyond what other clubs are doing which suggests it is not compulsory. However, COVID is running very high in Torbay at the moment and personally I support these measures. Having said that there has been no mention that this criteria will be dropped once track and trace has finished and it is possible that maybe these changes are being bought in under the cover of COVID-19 and if the club are so concerned about long queues at the turnstiles then with the gulls nest and refreshment outlets open there is certainly a lack of consistency in both their and the SAG policy. No one likes seeing fans being turned away at the ground and introducing these changes without even attempting any transition period is asking for trouble. I see Notts are charging £2 extra for tickets purchased on the day of the game - (Link) which does incentivise fans to buy early and maybe something along these lines together with keeping the match day office open until kick off or very close to kick off is a compromise way forward?

link - Devon live reporting on Richard Hughes mid week interview with the gaffer who has 8 or 9 players in mind for the starting XI with just a couple of places to nail down. Not looking at getting any loanees in at the moment but never say never if a Sam Sherring or Adam Randell came up, pretty sure not meant literally but then you never know!

Friend of mine was looking to spend circa £20 on food and drink at the Argyle friendly, offered up his card and was told "sorry cash only". He, like many, no longer carries cash on him so that was £20 worth of takings lost on him alone.

Johnson said in his pre match interview that probably no surprises in his starting XI. Can he fit the lemon behind Holman and Wright with Little and Lapslie in midfield, possibly a 4-3-1-2 formation and different from the 4-4-2 we have been seeing in pre-season.
