I remember this one well - it wasn't a great season, memorable only really for the West Ham win and transition from Cyril to Dave Smith. This one was well worth going though - some good players in the team, Paul Holmes really got going amd it was a surprise he wasn't snapped-up then and Paul Smith was one of my favourites. Airey was on incredible scoring form just a few months before but was barely featuring at this point and I recall he left pretty soon after this game.
Dobbo was very much missed and played well for them that day. The supremely talented Martin Russell had bizarre spell at Scarborough when he really should have been playing at a far higher level. Scarborough seemed perpetually skint at the time but managed to dig-out a smidgen over a hundred grand to sign him. Some of the other names on the programme stand-out as being very solid lower league professionals.
It was real humdinger of a match and I remember it being bitterly cold. We were terrible in the first half - I remember the 'sack the board' chants. Eventually we got going and turned that deficit into a fine win.
