Halfway through our preseason schedule and into August with the start of the season now beckoning. Bit of a tricky match as we seem to have picked up a few niggles/injuries in the past week so would not be surprised to see some of our younger squad members get a start along with some trialists. Would be nice to see Hall get a run out and if still absent probably means he has picked up an injury as he did this time last year.
Another chance to build up fitness but glimpses of the starting XI and strategy against Altrincham it will not be.

link - Johnson hopes to have Omar, Lapslie and Martin all back for this game. Hall is confirmed as having a slight Achilles’ tendon strain and being managed but hopes to be available by the start of the season.

Just back from the game tonight and nice to speak to Jon at half time.
Got there a little late and missed the first few minutes of the game and walked in to see Lapslie on the ground undergoing treatment but thankfully he was able to continue and eventually completed his shift without trouble tonight.
Started with a very weak lineup having three trialists, the same from Saturday and really out of the line up only Andrews Lapslie, Lolos and Martin would only be expected to be in the match day squad against Altrincham and even then not necessarily starting. The good news was that everyone else was just about on the bench apart from Hall.
For obvious reasons we haven’t yet found our fluency as the team is still looking to gel together and it was actually Tiverton that broke the deadlock when they got away on the right hand side and while Dan Martin got back to cover their number 11 he was able to cut inside and fire a screamer into the top of the far left hand corner leaving Marcin no chance whatsoever.
It didn’t take too long for Torquay to equalise and after some good work the ball came to trialist C a.k.a. Dan Holman and completed a reverse angle of the Tiverton goal by cutting in from the left and driving the ball into the top right hand corner. On the stroke of half-time a Tiverton mistake saw Holman gain possession and an one-on-one with their keeper and as he took the ball past him was brought down for a penalty and stepped up to confidently strike the ball home into the bottom right hand corner.
The second-half saw quite a few changes with CLE, Wynter, O’Connell, Little, Lewis, Trailist D in central defence as well as number 14 Trialist A move from right back to midfield. Number 14 has probably impressed me the most out of the players looking for a contract so far but Holman has done his chances no harm tonight. Wright and Moxey and then later on, Piper came on. Wright added to his tally from a low cross after some good work possibly by Lolos who was on the left wing at the time. Marcin made a very good save when their player got through for an one on one but otherwise we were guilty of kicking the ball way over the goal when the opportunity presented itself with an effort by O’Connell springing to mind.
So 3-1 the score stayed as we move on to an important match against Chippenham on Saturday.

I do enjoy an away pre-season friendly on a summer's evening. Nice to meet up with Rob and son.
This was a decent workout. Couple of worrying moments when Lapslie was clattered early on and Lemonheigh-Evans soon after he came on. Fortunately, no lasting harm done in either case. No game time for Halstead, Omar or Hall. Everyone else got some pitch time. The three trialists from Saturday (centre back now identified as Lewis Hobbs ex Crystal Palace and Welling) all started and a fourth (as yet unidentified) came on at half time. Only outfield player to get a full ninety minutes was trialist Chiori Johnson who continues to impress.
No messing with formations. A straightforward 4-4-2 throughout.
Lined up Brzozowski in goal, back four of Johnson, Hobbs, Slough and Martin. Lapslie and Moyse in the middle. Koszela and Andrew wide. Holman and Lolos up front.
Half time saw five changes. The new trialist and Joe Lewis replaced Hobbs and Slough. Little for Moyse. O'Connell for Koszela. Lemonheigh-Evans came on up front with Lolos moving wide left to replace Andrews.
Later Wynter came on at right back with Johnson moving in to midfield to replace Lapslie and Moxey replaced Martin. Then Wright came on for Holman and finally Piper replaced Lolos.
Tivvy's goal from Gabby Rogers was a belter and Holman's first not too shabby either. Holman showed his experience to win the penalty and converted confidently. Wright scored one but missed a sitter.
Lots of shots high wide and handsome giving Tivvy's Yellow Army plenty of chance to sing their favourite song "The Rugby ground is over there" pointing at Tiverton RFC across the road.
