Reading about the match mascots, I see that the 5 year old Exeter City mascot, Thomas Dolling's ambition was to be an "American Surfacing Policeman". I wonder what he is doing now.

I went to primary school with Mark Coombe and he was by far the best at any sport back then, and then I played at Torre Trojans where he was our keeper. I remember us playing in London against Chelsea United who had links to Chelsea FC in a match arranged by Colin Lee (at Chelsea at the time and a former Torre Trojans youth player) and although we lost 0-5, it would have been more but for Mark Coombe and so impressed were the coaches of Chelsea, I believe they tracked him for a while. It seemed that he had a big future ahead of him.
And yet so out of his depth did he seem when playing for Torquay (and also so small looking) that it really does make the gulf between what seems good when you’re a kid to how good you need to be seem massive. I also went to school with Chris Myers and how good he was at school, you’d think he would probably play for England but in essence his professional career was actually very brief.
