That Covolan save. Has anyone seen a better one by a Torquay keeper. What reactions. Absolutely incredible - will never forget it. Top drawer. Also went safe and no rebound chance. |

Lucas has improved with every game and always feel confident with him between the posts. Second goal well maybe should have done a little bettert but that was a fantastic corner. |

but that was a fantastic corner. Taken well out of the area and he flapped a fair bit, but that save was nearly on a par with that Bank’s s against Pele (1970 WC?) |

.... and last day: Barnet 0 Sutton 35 Altrincham 0 Torquay 36 These scores reminded me of an interesting incident: On 12 September 1885 Arbroath defeated Bon Accord 36-0 in the Scottish Cup. On the same day and 18 miles apart, Dundee Harp defeated Aberdeen Rovers 35-0 in the same competition. Spring forward to 1951 to a Scottish wedding, where the groom, who was the grandson of the Bon Accord goalkeeper (some 66 years earlier) married his sweetheart, incredibly the grand-daughter of the Aberdeen Rovers goalkeeper that fateful day. Between the newly weds, their grandfathers had conceded 71 goals on the same day. Well.... I enjoyed recounting that and I hope you enjoyed reading it, and it's all absolutely true. |
