The Devon F.A will be the first, to trial a new player I.D.card system. My understanding is that it is starting from the 2009/2010, season, all players in Devon will have to have an I.D.card.
Players must first get their I.D.card from the Devon F.A and only then will be able to register to play in any league. This will apply to all football leagues, Saturday, Sunday and even seven aside leagues. The cost of the cards has not yet been agreed.
The rule will be, that if a player turns up to play for his team, he must have his I.D.card with him, no card, no game, the ref's will not be involved with checking the I.D cards, it will be down to the managers.
I have heard managers say before, that the league should show some common sense, always after their club has had points deducted, or fined, or thrown out of a cup competition. Simply because they have play an ineligible player.
Not me guv, didn't know he couldn't play, we simply would not cheat. But how would the Reg secretary know that? the manager, only has 20 or so players to keep his eye on , what games they have played in. I know that after a days full time work, Ant comes home, has a pile of work to do as the Reg secretary, but he also checks every single game played, checks every single player, who has played in that game, well over 3000 players. So if he can do, then surly the clubs can.
When the said managers turn up to play a semi-cup final, against ***** res and finds that the team they played against three weeks ago in the league, now suddenly has five new faces in it. Well thats why its all check the way it is, so all clubs have fairness and the I.D card is seen as a way to really help.
Those five faces may well be first team players, put in now because a club smells a cup, for the trophy cabinet. Another thing that makes me angry, why, because that second team, together as a team may have played at Chagford on a wet and gale force day. Those lads were the ones who got too the semi-final and should be the ones to see it through to the end, come what may.
Now some will not even be on the bench, still the club may get a cup, who really cares if a player gets upset, well sorry clubs should care, but so often don't.
