In response to Register..looks like Street and Sheaf not going to contribute much at this stage of their careers...probably a good case to replace them with more experienced loan players.

Thanks for the reply stig, because sometimes I feel like Captain Kirk on this site! Monica Lewinsky's phone number to anyone who knows what that means. Not quite what I was looking for, but all will be revealed tomorrow. I'm in bed at the moment, and very shortly I'm going to be joined by Keeley Hawes...if only! Time for Ashes to Ashes.

I try and remain positive on here regarding our performances, but that was hideous viewing again today. I’ll probably leave it at that and rant elsewhere.

I don't think any team would cope with the amount of injuries we've got to key players and now lost Cameron God knows for how long. Be lucky if our season holds together we are now a mid-table side at best. What do you do if you can’t sign any more players, and you know there will be a lot of injuries throughout the season? I’m getting good at predicting the future pete because I knew you weren’t going to reply to my post. Fortunately, stig was very courteous and did reply to it, so I think for that reason I should give the answer to my question on his post...I hope you understand. 🙂

I think what is increasingly clear is that this is far from a normal season. A war of attrition more than ever...and the weaknesses in the depth of our squad have been exposed. Halifax had a number of players missing and still managed to turn us over despite losing to the bottom club in their previous game. The only good news is that we are still top of the league...albeit somewhat precariously. Best wishes to all.

So what is the answer to that question then...well I’ll tell you. If you know your going to have injuries and you have a great chance of promotion...you play as few games as possible...ie you don’t get involved in competitions that are even worthless than worthless!
Again yesterday, someone mentioned that none of the players turned up, which seems to be a recurring problem before every worthless match! For months I have been saying we’re gonna stuff this up... and we’re doing a good job of it. The players don’t want to be in this competition...hence they never turn up! And the amazing thing is, only a couple of members will actually accept this.
What’s even more amazing is that next week a thread will appear praising this competition to High Heaven! How we’ve done so well to get to the semi’s (or whatever bloody round it is) and praising the team for doing so well. When it’s the teams we beat who should be praised...they’re out of the bloody competition.
Jon will be there chuffed to bits at our progress in this competition, although Jon has a vested interest in us not getting promoted so he can be forgiven.
So there you have it, probably only two people ( you’re one stig, and thanks for the comment on the other thread, courtesy costs nothing, but for some people on this site, you would think they were giving away the Crown Jewels if they had to be courteous) on this site will accept/understand/acknowledge this post...amazing!

Fortunately, stig was very courteous and did reply to it, so I think for that reason I should give the answer to my question on his post...I hope you understand. 🙂 Reg I didn't realise you wanted an answer to what appeared to me to be a rhetorical question. Is there an answer? I couldn't immediately think of one or I would have responded. But for your benefit here are my thoughts. Very likely both young players, Street and Sheaf were brought in solely as last option cover and for the rest of the season which was undoubtedly one of the conditions of the deals with their parent clubs. Very likely funding has now stalled for any extra players, loan or otherwise and GJ will have to continue to work with what hes got. There's no bottomless pit of money and he is probably already well over budget. Finding decent players ready to commit is never easy in any case. It would be a pointless exercise to just bring any player in just to make up the numbers and only the manager can mange this situation if he s given the go ahead from above. Very disappointing not to see any returning once again yesterday and questions should be asked as to why we are suffering so many LONG TERM injuries. I'm beginning to think that quite a few are on borrowed time at the club solely because they are always crocked. Warren, Kerr, Little, Davis, Covalan, possibly Wright and even Asa Hall because of their age - all are injury prone and must now be considered a liability. All are unable to put up with the rigors and high tempo pro football at this level and what GJ demands. Its all very well having experience in the squad if they can play a decent number of matches - this season has shown up the pitfalls. Its almost time for a radical rethink on our squad for next season whatever division we are in though looking more like the NL as each game passes. Pretty obvious we would struggle in the one above as things stand and probably just about hold our own with a fully fit squad firing on all cylinders. One player who would have made a difference yesterday was Nemane who is technically very good and has a bit of FLARE something we are sadly lacking at the moment. When you consider the players GJ managed to sign in his first season, Opie Edwards, Kalvin Kalala, Saiko Jennah we had players who could do the unexpected and unlock defenses. Yesterday showed we had none of that caliber other than Ben Whitfield who had little support. Over to you Reg!

Certainly this season I share the thoughts on the FA Trophy. When only one division is left playing that may have entrants into that competition, with fans locked out owing to the pandemic and last year’s final having not taken taken place, I would question why it ever started as a competition this year.
Some will have to reanimate next week to take part eg: Hereford at Aldershot. I can’t remember what the other ties are other than us at Woking. Chances are we will win as it’s the Trophy. And pick up injuries as they are animals. Maybe throw in a loss there in the rescheduled League fixture while I’m looking at the half empty glass.
We don’t need it this year as things have transpired with our League position and injury carousel. But I also strongly agree with anyone considering that the competition should never have actually started. And that includes you, sweet cheeks.

Unless Jon has brought a job lot of t-shirts with "Torquauy United - National League 2021/22" written on them, I would be interested to know exactly what his vested interest in us not getting promoted is.

Lowlights are up! torquayunited.com/official-tufc-tv-tufc-2-3-fc-halifax-town/Plenty blaming defenders and the goalkeepr but reckon our problems stem from further up the field. Easy to blame goalkeepers they will always be the ones to blame and the easiest target. We could try and sign Alison from Pool I suppose! Early on in the season we pressed the opposition in their third with high energy intense pass and move plays until they caved in.We generally went a couple of goals up and they were left chasing the game. Without Wright's know how and hold up play, no box to box Nemane and with CLE inefective of late it has put added pressure on an already weakened defense. Randell does an admirable job as does Whitfield but they are both having to carry too much responsibility for making things happen.Asa does an admirable job but with no pace in his legs it leaves holes for the opposition to exploit. None of the target men are good enough though I believe Olaf should get a start from what I've witnessed. The signing of Street, who is nowhere near up to this level, is a little baffling but guess he would only have got the odd ten minutes if Wright had been fit. Feeling some trepidation with each fixture, I wasn't confident at all on Saturday when I looked at the team sheet. Cannot see a way out of this rut until we get some quality bodies back. We just seem to be losing more players to injury with every game that passes. Inevitable the quality of our play and results will drop off even further if the replacements cannot perform as our first choice players do. Have to be open minded now about how this season will pan out. What looked like a walk over for us before Xmas now looks like we could even a struggle to make the playoffs.
