Will we see Sheaf play for us again? Or Street, I know that he didn't have long to make a mark but he was invisible apart from one cross. Koszela was far more effective.

Will we see Sheaf play for us again? Or Street? Did not make much impact, then not much service and his cross did lead to our goal. Couple of near misses which would have gone in on another day and some possible penalty shouts turned down. Half way point and if you step back we are in a great position. Form is not great but then like last season it is injuries pulling us back down but no reason why that when players do come back as they will very shortly we cannot go on another good run.

Just seen Johnson post match interview, created lots of half chances but not enough quality. although the team gave it a go in the second half. Think Johnson’s selection itself was basically hamstrung by the injury situation.

These sort of games are truly the hardest to watch and I didn't think we wold get anything out of it. Glad we kept going and got something from the game - cannot fault the effort but you can see our quality has dropped off with the absence of CLE, Arron Nemane, Danny Wright, Armani Little, Ben Wnter etc etc. There's only so much a manager can do to cover for talented and key players. Thought Olaf did a very good job on the right tonight not sure if it was tactical or injury enforced. Umrerah wont be here long just has no technical ability and it showed tonight though he worked hard and put himself about. Some of his shooting and decision making was woeful but the manager has little choice at the moment with Street looking green and lightweight. Have to ride out the injury storm and hope we can get players back though gawd knows whats happened to Little , Warren and Kerr etc. If we were unfortunate enough to lose Whitfield and Randell we would be sure to be heading South in the league. Honestly didn't think we would be so devastated by injuries again this term as bad or worse than last season.
Still a nice gentle friendly to look forward to on Saturday eh?

Will we see Sheaf play for us again? I see someone has posted elsewhere that Sheaf 'threw a wobbler' when substituted. Is that what you were getting at, Rob. I completely missed that. If so, Johnson won't let that pass without consequence.

I can't help but wonder what impact Nelson would have had on our front line this season, especially in Wright's absence. Sadly I don't think we'll ever know the answer to that one as I cant see him kicking a ball for us all season.

A few minutes to reflect on last nights game and recent form etc. Losing so many first choice players of late has undoubtedly had a negative affect on our performances and results though try convincing some on social media FB, who consider that fact to not to be a valid reason for our tail off. The blame game has begun, the snowflake fans are starting to melt as the going gets tough with one or two suggesting we will soon be in a relegation fight. We see at every level of the game when squads are devastated by one injury after another and you only have to cast your eye towards Liverpool who have suffered enormously from injuries to key players. To my mind Its ridiculous to suggest that every player in the squad is of equal quality but that is also being touted as a reason to stick in the knife. A few positives came out of the game and I thought more than negative's on the whole. We were totally on top in the second period but struggled again fort that cutting edge to break them down in and around the penalty area as they predictably packed that area. Obvious to all I would have thought that with one or two of the missing playing we would have put them to the sword with ease as we would have with a strike force of Reid and Janneh. The quality up top without Wright has dropped off considerably. Umerah is our best target man option currently and that really says it all for me. When you consider how we attacked the penalty area with CLE, Reid, Kalala and Janneh in a previous life there is really no comparison. Despite the loss of three of those players we have some how managed to improve our goal scoring record over the first half of the season with goals coming from all over. Take out Nemanee, Wright and CLE who have been a huge part of our early season form and you have your answer for last nights result and our drop in form of late. A well marshaled Ben Whitfield becomes less effective automatically with those players missing though he did ok without our better players alonside. Opposing sides know his threat and feel comfortable putting two or three defender on him . Exactly half way through the season now but feel it will be an impressive feat for us to continue to open up or even maintain a gap between us and our nearest challengers.
If you ever ran a race and went out to hard at the start to run out of steam as the finishing tape beckoned is how I feel the season is going for us. Time will tell but with us now having to field a mid table side its going to be tough to reach that line ahead of the rest.

Definitely need to sign a couple of players...preferably this week. Cruel injury situation again. Beggars belief.

Taking this one game in isolation what gives me a slight feeling of optimism is that we kept on going right to the end and were justly rewarded with the late equaliser. I think that demonstrates spirit. It has been a disappointing run of recent results, especially only picking up one point from two home games against part time sides, but I seem to remember in the Buckle era we kept getting turned over by part timers. The boo boys are a pain, we were always going to struggle with the number of injuries we've got and the weather conditions on Tuesday only added to our problems. But overall given the circumstances on the night I thought we did ok. Our lead at the top of the table will give a small cushion in which to try and straighten things out,a but now it is game on and I see the rest of the season being a four way battle between us, Sutton, Hartlepool and the biggest threat coming from Notts County.

Its looking that way at the half way point. I certainly think that you can add Stockport into the mix who have impressed me every time they appear on the tele this season.

For a decent match report, try the excellent TorquayTalk: torquaytalk.com/2021/02/10/tt-match-verdict-tufc-1-1-wealdstone-9th-feb-2021/Dom Roman shows he was actually watching the match: Dave Thomas speculated on 3-5-2 (will DT ever think a booking is deserved?), but I believe it was a 4-4-2 for most of the game, before changing to a rather desperate 3-4-3 after the arrival of Rob Street. Tactics weren’t necessarily the problem, the Gulls more hindered by missed players (plenty of those) and a lack of sharpness and authority in their play.and a nice little graphic showing exactly how we lined up. Dave Thomas writes this nonsense in the Torbay Weekly: Torquay United (3-5-2): MacDonald; Lewis, Sherring, Cameron; Randell, Sheaf (Koszela 33), Hall, Andrews (Street 76), Whitfield; Umerah, Waters; subs not used - Slough, Price, Hamon. What a shame that rubbish like this goes into print. People will read this in years to come and believe that the writer had actually watched the game instead of wittering on and not paying attention. Randell was from the start in the middle of the field alongside Hall - he was never wide right in any way whatsoever. Andrews and Whitfield were both clearly wide on the left. Andrews behind Whitfield. Lewis and Sheaf were clearly wide on the right. Lewis behind Sheaf. 4-4-2 - just as Dom rightly says. It was not obvious from the named XI we would play like that. I expected Randell RB, Lewis LB, Whitfield RM, Sheaf CM, Andrews LM. It was not difficult to work out who was playing where though - if you actually watched the game! Sheaf was not doing what Johnson wanted him to do wide right and looked like a fish out of water. We really miss Nemane who is here there and everywhere. Sheaf looked like he was waiting for the ball to come to him and I am sure that is why he did not last long. Koszela did show some energy and determination out there and tried to grasp the nettle. Don't think that is necessarily the end for Sheaf - all depends on his reaction after he has calmed down. I would have been more annoyed if he had reacted to his substitution by looking glad he could go in out of the cold for a hot shower and a hot drink. He has not played that much and would have been very upset and frustrated that he had failed to take his opportunity. If he reflects on that, realises what he was doing wrong and what guidance he had failed to follow, then there is no problem and he will learn from the experience. If he decides he did nothing wrong and Johnson is an idiot for asking him to play in a way he does not fancy playing, then he will be out of the door straight away. I expect the former is more likely, but the latter not impossible.
