I didn’t think our 3 of Whitfield, CLE and Nemane had particularly good games by their high standards. Agree with Nemane. Disagree about Whitfield, full of running, involved with some nice moves, CLE didn’t stand out either way which probably means not at his best either.

Thought both sides worked incredibly hard and don’t recognise what you are saying about them being fatigued. Think a few of our players were not at their best but don’t blame it on playing their second match in 3 weeks. It doesn’t matter if it was their second match in 3 months, what matters is the fact that the match before the Notts County game was the Grail...it ‘mentally’ fatigues not physically fatigues! These are players on the cusp of doing something brilliant, taking a non league team into the league...now that is the Holy Grail. And what do they see...they see the opportunity slipping through their fingers. And why is it slipping away...because every couple of weeks they spend the whole day travelling to a God Forsaken ground to take part in the biggest White Elephant competition on the planet! I really can’t explain anymore. I do sort of agree (for once 😇)in that the league is the only focus for most fans. I also would have preferred for our tie to have been played on the Saturday but overall think it was beneficial to have got a game in before playing Notts. The risk of course was getting an injury and Hall had to be rested, but maybe without this game would have picked it up against Notts and not played against Sutton.

Thought Nemane had a reasonable game an is a clever little footballer who's confidence has grown under GJ. Can see a pass, make space for himself and creates for others. Skillfully put Wints in on the left for a teasing cross that went begging and covers an awful lot of ground not poor by any means a footballer who does the simple things very well. Little I thought really struggled when he came on in a pacey game and gave the ball away on numerous occasions. Needs more match time for sure.
We can talk on all day about our differences of opinion regarding player performances its what the forums about and thank goodness we have an outlet to discuss footballl matches. As long as its constructive critcism not childish name calling you see on FB that's just fine with me. We have a special manager and a special group of players giving everything and would hate to think any negativity got back to the dressing room and management.

Disagree about Whitfield, full of running, involved with some nice moves, CLE didn’t stand out either way which probably means not at his best either. Like yourself, Pete, I think Nemane has been a revelation this season and has grown under GJ’s tutelage. He is my current player of the season in a good side. We agree to disagree but I considered his performance at Boreham Wood and yesterday to not be up to his high standards. CLE was poor by his standards and, granted, Whitfield was good in the second half. Didn’t see him in the game in the first. I’d like to see the lad Sheaf freed up in a more natural attacking role if Asa is back. Even if he isn’t, tbh. And there are tired young legs that need rotating a bit, for me. I’m not convinced Waters will ever be a starter in a 4-2-3-1 and am keen to see Street get on the pitch, too, and half hoping GJ has seen enough of him now that he considers him the answer to unleash on an unsuspecting Sutton. Would be a nice selection headache if so. These are all very much first world problems with our team top of the League, though. As Pete says, they are a good bunch with an exceptional Manager. I haven’t seen comments on Facebook, Pete. I imagine much of it regarding yesterday concerns Umerah, so I won’t bother looking for it either. Like many of our team, Umerah is relatively young and confidence play is essential. He will have recently considered he might be able to stake his claim as Danny Wright’s replacement and will not be seeing that as going too well. But he pisses defences off, let’s them know they are in a contest, and I’d have him down as a starter in a 4-2-3-1 above Waters. Waters had earned the right with his Boreham Wood cameo of distinction to stake his own claim. I personally didn’t think he took it particularly well, but his link up play in that 15/20 minutes at Boreham Wood was top drawer and showed he might yet be up to it despite Joe Bloggs on the internet thinking differently. He’s one of a front two for me as a starter. Or a sub at tired legs. Opinions opinions.

Had a few arguments with my son at the start of the season as he thought Nemane was at best substitute material as did many fans but he has shown what a cracking little player he is once he was moved from a central to a wide position. I see Andy Charles on Torquay Talk gave him a mixed review. Rob - if you read the Sutton thread our views on our strikers are identical.

Indeed Rob we see things pretty much the same and yes Umerah is becoming a soft target for the name callers. McDonald who was outstanding yesterday has also been a target for the FB "playground". Umerah's a physical presence but a rough diamond. I can fully understand GJ starting him In games though a little surprised when Waters was ahead of him yesterday. Waters shows plenty of promise and seems to be a more of a fox in the box type so two completely different types vying for the same spot at the moment though would like to see Street on show at some point. Must have been good reason why GJ hasn't featured yet but trust his judgement. May have a strain and hes not our player remember. GJ always looks after his loans - one reason why he/we can attract very good young players. Other clubs trust him With Ben Wynter still not ready I feel were missing that point of attack quite badly. Sheering has done well but that position is specialist and he doesn't offer the same offensive support that Wynter does.
Keep the opinions coming its helping my sanity with having something to discuss!

Will keep ‘em coming, Pete. And as for people having a pop at MacDonald after yesterday’s performance, well there’s obviously no pleasing some. Thought he had a very good game, myself.

Thought he was excellent. Struggling to remember a better game from him. 2 good clean sheets this week. Keep that up with our goal scoring prowess and there is only one way the season is going to end up for us.

Indeed Rob we see things pretty much the same and yes Umerah is becoming a soft target for the name callers. McDonald who was outstanding yesterday has also been a target for the FB "playground".I don't know why some of our so called support indulge in this. The abuse that Reid used to get was beyond the pale. If you support the team it is completely counter productive abusing some of its members, because how is that supposed to help those being picked upon have a better game. When I was younger I would have 'play arguments' with friends over who was say a better striker Lawrence or Brown, but none of us actually suggested the player we were arguing against was useless. of course we all have opinions as to who is good and not so good but the current manager is one of the best we have ever had and he knows what he is doing, so no one is in a position to criticise his team, let alone being "fit to carry his boots". You pay your money because you support Torquay United and hope that they win, so encourage all the players and leave it to the management to sort the wheat from the chaff. Gary Johnson knows what he is doing.

link - Gary hails the spirit of our defending for this game. No news on who is fit for tonight.
