It was only two seasons ago we played newly promoted Wealdstone in the division below scoring six goals against them on the way to a well deserved double. In the early days of the Johnson management, when there were some serious doubts over Wynter playing at right back, we went to Wealdstone in October for a 0-3 win and then had a tighter game at Plainmoor for a 3-2 win with the never say die attitude of the away team making lots of friends in the home support that day. Funny enough the goal scorers for us at Wealdstone, Edwards, Essuman and Reid and then at Plainmoor, Kalala, Niate and Reid are all no longer with us.
We come into this game after a 10 day break following the Halifax away game where it was a bit of a shock to see in addition to the suspended Randell, no Moxey and still no sign of Little which heralded a change of formation to 4-4-2 with Waters coming back into the side. I think Johnson is likely to return to a three man midfield with CLE in an advanced role and Wright up front as that has worked very well previously. It sounds like and hopefully Moxey will be back, as good as Cameron was at left back last time, he and Sherring have formed an excellent partnership in the centre, both in attack and defence.
With 4 straight wins on the road we should go into this game in a confident mood but knowing that Wealdstone keep going and after looking down and out and dreadful in the first half against Sutton last Saturday, they got back to 3-2 before conceding an equaliser deep into injury time. Unsurprisingly, I see Emmanuel, one of their main strikers was not back on Friday in their 3-0 loss against Notts after pulling up early on in the Sutton game but they have other threats with Lafayette getting a double in that game and Danny Parish who has knocked a few in for them after scoring a hatful for Maldon and Tiptree last season. This should be the last game without fans, at least for now but hopefully we can still continue to stream these away games.
