I remember this programme for one thing, the picture of the bog roll with the x across it. At the time I was a teenager, but by no means a hooligan, but I thought the "For the benefit of those who cannot read" was condescending and left me feeling the club would rather it's younger supporters stay away, and the impression the club was run by stuffed shirts in blazers. I suppose it isn't surprising to find out now it was written by Merce who can be a touch insensitive at the best of times. That feeling was reinforced a couple of years later when the mini stand, where myself and mostly younger supporters stood, was fenced in on the advice of the police (although I believe the police actually advised fencing in the Babbacombe end). Nowadays I just feel the club are only interested in the contents of your wallet but that goes for nearly all other clubs.

In fairness to merse he makes very good points in the article on what is a serious matter, and I think the bog roll has a role to play at the end by drawing attention to the content of the article for those who may be scanning the programme without really reading it. I am sure you will remember plainmoorpete that there were some bloody idiots attending football in the 1970's. Certainly not exclusive to our club but we did have our fair share.
