This thread is all about what the year 2008 meant to you, what event or major news story will always make you remember this year. It could have been some major terrorist attack, we have had far to many, or it could be the credit crunch and the effects it has had on your life and family.
You may remember the year as you got married, or had your first or even another child, that has made your life complete, it could also be the lose of someone famous or someone you know, who by no longer being in this world, has made the world seem a bit more empty.
For me the year has been at times a very hard year, it started well, but then in February what just seemed like a knotty bit of scare tissue, on Carols scare where she had major surgery, five years ago for breast cancer, turned out to be a real concern. It resulted in two failed operations on her chest wall to clear the area of cancer and then followed by the news that she had a tumour on her left kidney and a hot spot on a rib bone.
This then led into so much time spent at appointments at the hospital and six months of coping with the real nasty effects of the chemo that Carol had.As we are about to start a new year together, she has recovered well from the chemo effects and continues to smile at the world, as she always has.
The next big major thing to remember the year 2008, was the setting up of the Torquay Fans Forum, you all know the reasons why I did, so no need to go over that ground again. At the time of setting it up I did question my timing doing so, I really had so much else to be dealing with and in the first few months, the forum at times was on the odd occasion adding to my woe.
Yet I knew how important this place was to me, I was making great new friends and people who don't even know me and Carol, were sending such great messages of support, they all went such a long way in helping me get through some very dark days.In one email from Romfordkev, he said that I was a bit shaky at times, I know I was and I do thank all those who were here then and stuck with the forum and made some allowances for the way I sometimes was.
One big thing that the forum did for me, was to help me during my working day, I spend most of it on my own, driving around the southwest of England. Being able to think about my next post or thread, helped take my mind away from the dark thoughts that I always had to fight.
At the end of this year, the Torquay Fans Forum has grown so much, has been so lucky to get all the quality members it has and in my view the very best TUFC posters you will ever find in one place. So I would just like to say a big thank you to you all and I'm sure we will grow into a bigger and stronger community on here and be the forum that all fans will want to be a part of.
All the very best for 2009
