Jon, I thought I had a good knowledge, and lasting memory, of this season in particular, but what are these matches and what was the WCFL? I have looked at one home programme issued in May 1966, but cannot find any trace of these results. Come on, man, what the hell have you dug up here?

Western Counties Floodlit League - only lasted one season - south west region professional clubs both football league and non-league - Midweek games normally on a Wednesday - I went to some of the early games including Robin Stubbs hitting 6 against Cheltenham - Stubbsy ended up in the back of the net in one game put there by our own centre half John Smith (amateur) RIP who was captain of the reserves at the time. John's eyesight was not the best especially under floodlight, so Stubbsy who was just coming back from injury had another couple of weeks off!

It lasted a lot longer than that, but we quit after a year. We did rejoin in 1973 only for floodlights to be banned due to the power crisis. We did finish all 14 fixtures in 1974/75. Cheltenham match report here: torquayfansforum.co.uk/thread/4233/27-10-65-torquay-cheltenhamThe Smith Stubbs collision must have been against Argyle on April 4 - the only game they both played in. Stubbsy did not miss a first team match after January 8.

The programmes during the season listed Football League and Western League appearances but ignored the WCFL for some reason. Let's put that right: Player | League | Cup | WCFL | WL | All | Adams, Robert | | | | 1 | 1 | Adlington, Terry | 17 | 2 | 1 | | 20 | Allen, George | | | | 5 | 5 | Anderson, Tom | | | | 1 | 1 | Atkinson, Bill | | | 1 | 9 | 10 | Balsom, Cliff | | | | 3 | 3 | Barnes, Ron | 18 | | 1 | | 19 | Benson, John | 45 | 2 | 4 | | 51 | Bettany, Colin | 4 | 1 | 1 | 5 | 11 | Binney, Fred | | | | 2 | 2 | Bond, John | 20 | | | | 20 | Bowyer, Eric | | | | 1 | 1 | Brewster, John | 3 | | 10 | 30 | 43 | Burgess, Eric | 17 | 1 | 10 | 17 | 45 | Calland, Arnold | | | | 2 | 2 | Chilcott, Chris | | | | 1 | 1 | Chilcott, Mike | | | 6 | 15 | 21 | Clarke, Doug | 44 | 2 | 5 | | 51 | Coleman, Martin | | | | 1 | 1 | Cox, Geoff | 12 | 2 | 6 | 10 | 30 | Davison, | | | | 1 | 1 | Evans, John | 2 | 1 | 8 | 26 | 37 | Feasby, Steve | | | 1 | 12 | 13 | Green, Tony | | | | 1 | 1 | Greygoose, Dean | | | | 1 | 1 | Hardy, Ted | | | | 13 | 13 | Harris, Joe | | | 3 | 24 | 27 | Hellier, Glen | | | 1 | 3 | 4 | Hellin, Tony | 16 | 3 | 10 | 18 | 47 | Higginbottom, Peter | | | | 1 | 1 | Higgins, John | | | | 3 | 3 | Johns, Alan | | | | 1 | 1 | King, Gerry | 18 | 2 | 6 | 17 | 43 | Kirkman, Alan | 37 | 2 | 7 | | 46 | Knott, Bob | | | | 13 | 13 | Lewis, Barry | | | 3 | 14 | 17 | McGuire, Gary | 16 | | 2 | 2 | 20 | Murphy, Ben | | | 4 | 17 | 21 | Northcott, Tommy | 38 | 3 | 6 | | 47 | Peterson, Russell | | | | 8 | 8 | Pym, Ernie | | | | 6 | 6 | Rockey, Eddie | | | | 7 | 7 | Sangster, Mike | | | | 1 | 1 | Smith, Alan | 43 | 2 | 5 | | 50 | Smith, John | | | 3 | 19 | 22 | Somers, Micky | 10 | 1 | 7 | 17 | 35 | Spratt, Tommy | 46 | 2 | 7 | | 55 | Stubbs, Robin | 35 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 44 | Trout, Mike | | | 2 | 5 | 7 | Turner, Mike | 13 | 1 | 8 | 24 | 46 | Wescott, Ivan | | | | 2 | 2 | Wolstenholme, Trevor | 20 | 1 | 10 | 8 | 39 | Wyatt, Reg | 36 | 2 | 2 | 5 | 45 |

P.S. Anyone know Davison's christian name? Jon. I can tell you about ARTHUR Davison. Known universally as Dave Davison. He worked for me for a while in the early 70s. He was a Londoner, played for Millwall pre war, not sure he had any 1st team appearances. He played at right back and of course only one appearance for Torquay. He emigrated to Australia probabalyin the early 80s, to join his son , who had been living there for a few years. WE kept in touch for a few years. He took up golf while he was there and was proud he got down to a low handicap even though he was in his 60s by then.

The Smith Stubbs collision must have been against Argyle on April 4 - the only game they both played in. Stubbsy did not miss a first team match after January 8. That is one of those memory things then as I thought that Stubbsie had to go off injured after the collision. I recall the actual incident clearly and it was definitely a Western Counties Floodlight League game (I stand to be corrected but I don't think Stubbs ever played for the Western League side) so it was the game you mention if that was the only one they appeared in together. John Smith and I were later work colleagues for many years and I very often teased him about the incident which he remembered well. He died aged only 68 about 5 years ago of alzheimers but despite his condition it was one of those things you could mention to him and get an immediate smile and then the story told by him several times. Lovely man RIP.
