Jon, I have two questions for you now: There is a suggestion that the "current" season may be abandoned and all of the records expunged, which presumably would include individual appearances and goals scored. What is your view on that? It is certainly going to make a mess of my records! Secondly, I know that this thread was started, all those years ago, by a member called Barton Downs, who had also posted under the name of Lummaton Cross. I believe that you knew him quite well, and I was very disappointed when he suddenly deleted his account, as I enjoyed his postings on the topic of this thread and others, and being able to respond to them. So, my question is: who was he, and why did he decide to depart the scene in what, at the time, appeared to be in great haste? Did he say something which upset someone else, or vice versa? Hopefully enough time has passed so that you can reveal the answer to a question which has long puzzled me without breaching any confidentiality. 1. I will definitely count the appearances and goals from this season in the records. Not sure what anyone else will do. They are definitely competitive first team games in my book. 2. You did me a favour mentioning Barton Downs as it reminded me to ring him yesterday for a long overdue catchup. He is well and passes on his regards. I got to know Nick (his real name) through this forum and we became good friends. He lived in Taunton when we first met, moved to Sheffield for a few years, but is now settled in Exeter about halfway between the City and the University. I used to see him at home games and we shared a few away trips. I think Nick periodically gets fed up with all the forum nonsense that goes on (don't we all?) and takes the nuclear option of deleting accounts rather than just staying away for a week or two as I do. Barton Downs was deleted but resurrected later as Lummaton Cross which was then deleted again. Nick always had a passion for travelling around and visiting different grounds unconnected to TUFC (although he denies being a groundhopper!). Around his 60th birthday he suddenly decided that supporting TUFC was giving him grief (what? surely not!) and decided he got more pleasure from groundhopping visiting various grounds as a neutral. His last appearances on a forum that I saw were purely on the subject of groundhopping visiting various grounds as a neutral on another forum under the name of Haldon Rambler but he has since deleted that account and as far as I know does not post anywhere now. A huge shame as he has a huge knowledge of TUFC, general football history and just about everything. He also has a wonderful writing style. For years he penned TUFC-related articles for When Saturday Comes magazine. I have seen a lot less of him since he gave up on TUFC (in fact have hardly seen him at all) and am not very good at keeping in touch with people. I was hoping he might break his self-imposed TUFC ban and turn up at a Devon Bowl game somewhere, but he hasn't. He's like the reformed alcoholic who cannot have a half of shandy on his birthday! I don't think Nick has ever upset anyone and is not the type to take offence. He's just decided that forums are not for him and TUFC is not for him. So a TUFC forum is doubly not for him.

Jon, thanks so much for that explanation. As you say, it was such a shame that he disappeared from this site so suddenly, as I always looked forward to reading his views about our club, his experiences at the grammar school and many other topics. I'm not sure exactly when he decided to call it a day on this forum, but as far as I can recall nobody ever criticised or ridiculed his opinions, nor were there so many one line comments containing expletives in those days as there are now. I wonder if he ever got round to finishing that book by Jonathan Wilson? So many years ago but it still seems like yesterday. As for the potential expunging of records, I completely agree with you, but at the back of my mind I was trying to remember the outcome of Accrington's withdrawal in 1962, when I'm sure that all of their player records were wiped out, but I cannot find any website which confirms or denies that.

Regarding Accrington's withdrawal in 1962 and their player records, just found it: www.wsc.co.uk/the-archive/30-Clubs/2921-axed-stanley"The results of their matches were declared null and void and the records of the players for the season were expunged from the official statistics." I suppose that there is all the difference in the world between their situation and what is happening now, but there is always the chance that some bright spark of a statistician will see this as a precedent.

There were also Aldershot games expunged in 1991/92 and of course the 2/3 games at the start of 1939/40 season abandoned due to WW2. All deleted from the official records. However this season there were far more games and seems wrong to just deem they were never played and don't count in the records.
