Are we really what other people percieve us to be?
I was told a long time ago that it is easy to get a reputation but could take a lifetime to get rid of one.
Take a real good look at yourself and then those around you. we are not what other people see in us. I have done alot of naval gazing lately to try and improve perceived weeknesses.
My military background has taught me to put on a uniform when I go to work which includes a change of attitude. Unfortunately, it is very different in civvie street and after 20+ years I still find it hard to adjust.
I appear, to my work colleagues, to be arrogant, aggressive, direct and tough. these attributes are so far from the truth. I actually lack confidence and worry about the slightest things. It started with my father joking with me but children or their sub-conscience cannot take a joke. Even with straight As on my report, he would say "not bad, could do better". He meant well but has lead to me being a perfectionist who beats himself up at perceived failures.
So, the next time you meet someone who appears loud, aggressive etc, he or she is probably insecure or lack confidence
We all carry baggage around with us but deal with it in different ways.
Sorry about my ramble (and yes Merse, I am sober)
