A hard fought win against a very, very agriculture Aldershot side who I thought were luck to finish with 11 players, very weak ref who despite booking one of their players after 30 seconds let a string of studs up tackles go unpunished throughout the game. Hope he never officiates again.
We need to put those missed chances away as other (and better) clubs will punish us.

Bumped into Sir Robin Stubbs in Sainsbury's Sunday morning and he commented on this. Back in his day, it was allowed but nowadays you cannot lunge in two-footed studs-up. Yes, they invariably got the ball as the TUFC player jumped out of the way each time to avoid getting his leg broken - but they should not have to. Reckless, dangerous play is not permitted - and rightly so. Sir Robin enjoyed Reidy's goal. Touch, turn, touch, bang. No messing. No stopping to think about it. Back to goal with two defenders on him, but in the time it takes a defender to think "what is he going to do here then?" it was in the back of the net. I never saw Sir Robin in his prime (only when he came back with a dodgy knee), but I imagine he scored goals like that for fun. Just as in the Maidenhead game, the first goal was crucial. If Aldershot had got it, they would have broken up the game. The second half would have been even messier and uglier than the first. As it was, they opened up just a little and we played them off the park. We are better than most teams in this league IF it comes down to a football match. Good to see us work so hard to earn the right to play football. |
