link - reported on dot com today that Doug Clarke who played for us around the time of our FA Cup win has died.

It is with sadness we speak of the loss of Dougie Clarke, one of our very special TUFC team of legends, who attended our TUST social last autumn.
He was signed by, and part of, Frank O' Farrell's dream team after a distinguished career. This included being voted by Hull City supporters as one of the best footballers to ever have played for them.
Personally, knowing Dougie as an old family friend to be a kind and friendly family man, who always had the time of day for anyone who wished to stop for a chat. His knowledge of football was astute, and his many interesting anecdotes relating to his long career were well worth listening to.
We send our condolences to Dougie's family and hope that their happy memories of him will help them through this difficult time.

Remember those great Frank O'Farrell teams of the mid sixties so well and Doug playing on the right wing with Ronnie Barnes or Tony Scot on the left.
Alan Welsh another of my hero's of the time was also competing for a start around that time.

Alan Welsh another of my hero's of the time was also competing for a start around that time. ........I remember him well from when I was a little boy - the Welshes, Mickey Cave (RIP also), Brian Joy I think all roomed opposite us in 2, Reddenhill Road with Mrs Bragg at that time - all the other players were round there also, all the time...... |

Doug was "before my time", but I was privileged to share a table with him at the TUST legends evening.
A really nice guy. He seemed to feel a little bit out of place at first as he was the oldest legend there (only Robin Stubbs was from his era) and so probably the least recognised, but as the evening wound on he settled down, relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed himself.
It was a treat for a "youngster" like me to hear his and Robin's stories.
I was not able to say I saw him play, but Bryan (with a y) came over and told him - absolutely genuinely - that he was his childhood hero.
Doug also seemed pleased that I remembered his son Stuart.
It was an evening that was thoroughly enjoyed by Doug, the other players in attendance and the fans. A reminder of the good that a football club can do to bring a community together based on a shared love for the football club.
Sad to think that Doug was born in Bolton and made his league debut for Bury. Let's hope those two clubs pull through their current crises.
