Reckon were all asking ourselves are we stronger, weaker or about the same in terms of squad quality and depth.
This coming weeks promised transfer activity will, no doubt tell us more.
Certainly we have better cover in goal but Mac Donald will be hard to shift but this must be a "stronger"
Across the back its as we were but with no cover in central defense and two injured left wing backs. The injury to Ryan Dickson is a concern as he struggled with injuries last term. Matt Buse who I believe is a really midfielder has done ok in pre season an unlikely recruit with little known history but may turn out to be a gem and sound cover on the right. Cameron is a class act Niate, who I rate hopefully will have fewer "wobbles". "Weaker"
Midfield we have replaced Connor L Evans with Armani Little.
Like what I've seen so far but I wouldn't say an improvement just yet as CLE was instrumental in our style of play and who created space for Reid and Janneh to prosper. Good to have Andrews here. Asa Hall will still be influential of course but needs young quicker legs around him t be effective. Vincent continues to improve impress me. A star in the making. "Same"
Up front. Of the two friendly games I have seen its clear Jamie Reid is missing his partner of last season. As yet Mani Daku doesn't create the space our friend Saikou did who lit up the place with his positive running at defenders and invaluable goal tally last season. Reidy still has to prove himself at this level when his previous tally for this division was only six goals for the season.
The incredibly talented and entertaining Kalala will be a threat no doubt but my fear is it will only take one thug defender and one hit to put him out of the game and maybe a few others. Bound to blow hot and cold - must be patient with players of his type no doubt a big player for us and a match winner..
Ruari still divides opinion but appears to be continuing with his new lease of life under GJ. Still don't see him as a strike partner for Reid but it will be difficult to leave him out after his eye catching and hard working displays of late.
At only seventeen Olaf Koszela simply isn't ready for this stage as yet and has shown little in pre-season to suggest otherwise. Needs to be nurtured if hes going to become the player we all hope he will and I would have thought preferable he went out on loan rather than sit on the bench week after week. "Weaker"
The work ethic, high tempo pressing style of play is obviously a big plus that is bound to reap rewards but I must say I'm feeling a little more guarded as regards our prospects when I consider the potential caliber of this seasons opponents who will be well prepared and more able to cope with those tactics. I count a dozen ex league clubs who will all be thinking they should be in their "rightful place".
Its going to be a lot tougher than it was last season.
It would be arrogant to expect us to storm this league but I do expect at the minimum consolidation and plenty of entertainment with continued improvement along the way under GJ.
Make your own mind up - some will agree others may not but always good to read opinion.
