This was a very successful scheme last year where volunteers from TUST were able to greet fans on entry into the ground and were both a friendly face and first contact to deal with any queries they may have had.
I was fortunate enough to help out with this and was able to direct newish fans to their seats, sort out numerous ticketing problems such as a father given a ticket on a different row to his young 5 year old daughter or where season tickets holders hadn’t had their seat reserved and the dual ticketing arrangements where fans turned up early to get a good seat which unbeknownst to them had been reserved and were tufted out at 3pm and having to find another seat far away from friends and family. There was also the case of the missing supporters plaque that was taken down a week after going up to solve!
Also it was an amazing opportunity just to talk football with many loyal fans whose faces I got to know from game to game and digest the latest news about the club and debate our prospects and line up for the game that day. It was surprising how many TUFC fans from around the country came down when they could as well as many becoming a TUFC supporter for the day while on holiday.
It was therefore very disappointing to find out last night that the directors at the ground do not wish to continue with this scheme with no reason given. All the volunteers are season ticket holders and have given many hours of their time to enhance the match day experience of their fellow supporters. I understand another promotion to the EFL would see the club needing to have a supporter liaison officer which is similar to the role of the matchday ambassador so with the aspirations for this season it makes no sense in discontinuing this - link
I think this is a short sighted decision by the directors and would urge them to reconsider this for the forthcoming season!
