I see the Gateshead saga has taken a few twists and turns in the last few days.
It currently looks like we will be playing Aldershot as Gateshead has been kicked out.
Gateshead has the right to appeal - so still not 100% certain.
I cannot see how Gateshead could possibly be competitive in the National Premier even if they could jump through hoops to start the season. In the circumstances, it would be difficult for a club of "our size".
Last season Gateshead had less than a third of our gate - in a season they competed strongly for promotion to the Football League. Their location is not much more helpful than ours, their ground far less suitable and less income-generative than ours. They are certainly no Chester, Halifax, Darlington, Aldershot or Newport in terms of fan backing.
Let's hope the club can survive and rely on the FA's discretion as to where they would be placed - anywhere from step 2 to 5 (National League North to Northern League). They would not be particularly out of place at step 3. A phoenix would probably be looking at step 7.
Contrary to what you may read elsewhere, Truro City would NOT be reprieved if Gateshead collapsed or were placed at step 3 or lower.
Warrington would be placed in National League North - if that place was not offered to Gateshead.
Either way, Oxford City would benefit by being allowed to stay in the South in place of Aldershot.

Their location is not much more helpful than ours, their ground far less suitable and less income-generative than ours. “Gateshead FC has been found guilty of failing to obtain security of tenure over its ground, defaulting on football creditors” was the line that made me shiver thinking there but for the grace if someone unscrupulous ever got our freehold and passed the club on. Where did they end up after eviction from the athletics track. Is that somewhere available to them next season? This Varghese sounds like a wrong’un. If their supporter led takeover went through in the next few days, maybe there might be a fudge - relegation to NLN still being an option after appeal. If he remains at the helm, they’re absolutely buggered and it will be Aldershot and two relegations for them and further uncertainty.

I believe that even though the council kicked them out of the ground during the week they were allowed back in on match days just to enable them to complete the season.

Never much liked Aldershot. Dirty side in the 70s. Remember they had a ginger haired midfielder who kicked anything that moved. On the upside Aldershot a lot closer than Gateshead.

link - I see the Notts County takeover deal did not happen yesterday and with them due back in court next Wednesday things are looking bleak and doubtful they will even start in our league. Favourites to win the league? You’re having a laugh!

And all safely backed up by the TUST piggy bank should Clarke ever hit a temporary cashflow problem, or should an anti-enterprise local authority stubbornly insist on imposing an anti-growth and anti-sustainability block on a forward thinking local club with serious Football League ambitions. I'd imagine Prime Minister Boris would take an extremely dim view if there were suggestions one of his MP's might be aiding and abetting such a short sighted obstructionist approach.
Hopefully deselection won't be necessary, but you either become a 'Dude' or slope off to join the Liberal Democrats. Local Tories will be watching.

Favourites to win the league? You’re having a laugh! No official word yet but looks like the Notts County deal has gone through today securing their future. Perilously close to the start of the season which will knock back their preparations- link
