Sorry to hear.
From the OS
"The Club was saddened to learn of the passing of former Torquay United player Jon Gittens at the age of 55.
Gittens, a formidable central defender, joined Torquay United in the summer of 1996 after serving with distinction for Southampton (two spells), Swindon Town, Middlesbrough, and Portsmouth.
He played an integral part in United reaching the Third Division play-off final against Colchester United at Wembley in 1998 under manager Kevin Hodges. Gittens picked up United’s Player of the Season award that season.
Jon left United in 1998 to sign for neighbours Exeter City.
Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this sad time."

He played an integral part in United reaching the Third Division play-off final against Colchester United at Wembley in 1998 under manager Kevin Hodges. Yes, he did play an integral part in that season, as unfortunately my abiding memory of him will always be his conceding penalties in the Leyton Orient and Colchester matches. Things could have been so different if he hadn't tripped Craig Maskell in the Orient game. Nevertheless, he was indeed a rock in defence in a system brilliantly thought out by Kevin Hodges. Sincere condolences to his family.
