Torquay went back to their winning ways again thanks mainly to their first half performance annihilating Dulwich 4-0 at half-time. But this does not tell the whole story in a crazy series of events. Half way through the first half when leading 2-0 the referee pulled up injured with a hamstring looking injury. After an uncomfortable delay, on ran a volunteer from the Popside to cheers from the fans. After a few more minutes he came out from the changing rooms kitted up and raring to go to loud cheers and took his duties as linesman in front of the Popside. There were 9 minutes of added time in the first half. Then the second half went crazy with Torquay going very lax and Dulwich themselves should have scored 5. Crowd 2,655, with 117 away fans, MOTM going to Janneh. No-one can deny the entertainment value on show today and I give that a 10 out of 10.
Torquay were quick of the traps today and had the perfect start when Reid scored on 5 minutes with a heavily deflected shot that beat the tallest keeper in the world. Torquay were flying playing with pace and slick movement and the second goal was proof of this with great build up and pace splitting their defence and Janneh finishing off at close range. The referee injury came at an inconvenient time but Torquay still managed to get their game back together before the break to score two more. Janneh rounded the keeper and scored virtually on the goal line and Reid scored with a decent taken penalty after Sendles-White was fouled in the box.
Janneh's shot from our left made it 5-0 with the ball comically going through their keeper's legs but there were a few more twists and turns to come. At this point Dulwich looked a terrible team but credit to them, they started to get their act together. Shortly after Keating replaced the outstanding Andrews, Dulwich had the ball in our penalty area on our left. Davis went in for the tackle, the Dulwich player seem to jump over Davis with no contact made, however the referee pointed to the spot and they scored. Then a terrible bit of play with Reid I believe gifting the ball to Dulwich in his own half. Our defence was wide open and Dulwich slotted the ball past MacDonald. Vincent replaced Kalala but Torquay had a dodgy 15 minute spell. MacDonald pulled off a tremendous flying save to keep the ball out and little later Wynter I believe made a last ditch saving tackle from close range to keep out Dulwich from scoring again. The game had turned on its head.
Torquay did eventually regroup in the last 10 minutes and missed some glaring misses of their own but Dulwich hit the foot of the post in a crazy open game. The game could have easily ended up 10-5 or similar! So an amazing game and at times Torquay looked a class above with their attacking play but a worrying spell in the second half when we looked vulnerable. The game finished to celebrations with the players and Gary Johnson and made all the more sweeter with Woking's defeat. Tremendous football and entertainment that will continue to bring the crowds back. Great stuff!
