I received this personal message from a former well respected player you will all remember very well.
No idea why he entrusted me with this information though we have recently shared some good banter on the TUFC supporters FB page.
I replied and said I would keep it confidential and leave it to him to explain but he suggested I put it out there.
I don't see it as headline making but gives a little insight of the behind the scenes decision making and processes that have gone on these past few months.
So here is part of the conversation that took place post AFC Fylde. Make of it what you will.
DC -As part of my interest to gain a role as director of football I predicted to both Torquay and Barrow chairman that there current structure and regime would get them relagated,
I must Know something about the game!
Me - Good luck with that Dave hope it happens for you as you obviously still have a passion for the game. Really appreciated your input over these past dire moths of this football club. No idea where it goes from here with relegation all but confirmed tonight. I watched without passion even when we went a goal up you just knew the opposition had more of everything in all departments. Cant fault the players effort or commitment that was there but Fylde were sharper better organised, were more threatening in and around the box and looked like a unit. No idea how things will change for the better but I do believe we need to start from fresh and hope we can find a manager/ coach who can find a recipe for better times.
DC - I spoke with the chairman in November and offered to do a DOF role for free, I said the challenge he would have and I wouldn't was seeing through the bullshit. Watching training, understanding the system and what Gary was trying to achieve was key to trusting him. Gary is a builder, always a player short, we needed a organiser and motivator, I told the chairman to roll the dice in January and I would install a manager to keep us up, he was to meet me in Bristol then decided Gary had convinced him.he was the man to keep the club up and have not heard from.him since? Bet he wished he had listened now as I know I did not want to go down.
Me -Well that interesting Dave some serious insight on some behind the scenes goings on, personally I would have loved to see you involved. Ill keep this info between us and for you to decide if you want it to be made public . Thanks for your efforts Dave I know you have a real soft spot for this club and as a player you won the respect and hearts of all of the fans and we had some great moments under the leadership of the great Cyril Knowles - how I wish we could turn the clock back.
DC - Thanks Pete, Clarke may reflect on what I proposed, too be fair without knowing me he probably thought I presented less insight than Gary and decided to trust someone closer to home judgement. If you want to say anything, just say you were aware I offered to help the club for free in November but not in the capacity as manager more of a director of football to support progress at the club, but that my offer was not taken up.
Credentials keep to yourself
This is my business www.soccerpdp.com 3 year research into football development and been working for Burnley, Aberdeen and was director of football for Albion Rovers when we played Celtic. www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wee-rovers-should-thinking-big-9655796.amp#ampshare=https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wee-rovers-should-thinking-big-9655796
Me - Sure Dave I think I may mention your offer to Clarke and he club at some point but as you say It was a tough one for Clarke Osborn as hes not really a football man and there was still plenty of time for GO to turn things around but in fact and as we all know the results continued to deteriorate. Not sure if Gary Owers would have wanted another personality on the scene either but whatever there was no guarantee another set of eyes and ears would improve things either though to be honest. I have no idea what you could have brought to the table but its pretty obvious from your links here you could well have helped to pinpoint some key deficiencies and perhaps saved us the embarrassment of this awful conclusion. Wish you luck with your business Dave it looks spot on!
Well there you have it.
As you can see read I responded to DC with respect.
We will never know now whether he could have made the difference.
