We take on in-form Fylde and their goal machine Danny Rowe knowing that defeat would make reaching 50 points mathematically impossible.
We are without our two main strikers Romain and Healey after two stupid sendings off at Dover. Martin Kuhl joined them in being sent off - leading by example when it comes to ill discipline.
Fortunately, Owers has the rest of his massive 23 man squad - apart from poorly Reece Mitchell who would not play anyway - to choose from.
So who will play up front with Williams? Plenty of choice - Reid, Keating or Pittman. Unfortunately, all three seem to have had the confidence beaten out of them by Owers and Kuhl.
Then in the hole you have a choice of Gosling (ditto) or Reid or play Lemonheigh-Evans further up and bring in Dowling or O'Sullivan or Klukowski or even play a defensive midfielder in Sotolik or Barnes.
An incredible number of options when you think how thin on the ground we were a year ago when we pulled off Great Escape 2 with a threadbare squad.
April 8 2017 saw us draw at Aldershot 1-1. We had just four on the bench including Nico who had not played for six months and young Will Hancox who came on as as sub.
We had Reid and Keating up front. The team also included Chaney, Lathrope and Lee. Owers may have been able to demand "better players" but he hasn't been able to make them into a better team.
I will be delighted if he can prove me wrong and meet his single objective for this season - avoiding relegation.

Tipped down overnight. Paths all flooded on my way to work.
Chris Ralph and his team will have their work cut out to make the pitch playable.

Passed ok by local ref - another inspection due 5.00pm Lovely and bright at the moment in Paignton, must be game on. Plainmoor has passed a 5pm pitch inspection ahead of tonight’s 7:45pm kick-off against AFC Fylde.
The match referee Savvas Yianni assessed the surface and deemed the pitch playable it its current condition. Only the referee can call off a match, they have the ultimate control as to whether matched go ahead.
Please keep an eye on our media channels because there is concern over the forecast this evening when more rain is expected.

Let's hope the game goes ahead now, particularly as the ground staff will have put in many hours of hard work. It's a job for 'Forward Line Repair Man' tonight, and if he's turned up and advised Owers on how we score some goals this evening then we'll all be very grateful. You'd probably expect Reid to get a starting berth ahead of Keating. JP Pittman seems to be out of favour unless he's miraculously risen again up the pecking order since Easter. As Jon reminded us in the opening post, we might now have better players than when King Kev engineered his late great escapes, when fielding any 11 players was an accomplishment, never mind hoping to have a full complement of subs as well. Cap'n Angus reminisced on the old days to his local newspaper in Hull a couple of months ago, shortly after his transfer to The Tigers: “The turning point for me was the season we were in a relegation fight with Torquay (2015-16). Kevin Nicholson came in as manager and made me captain. We stayed up on the second to last weekend and I scored the winner. The feeling and everything around the club, we all pulled together.“We were rock bottom for a while but out of nowhere we found some wins. It was the togetherness that Kevin brought to the whole club and community. That’s what worked for us and that’s what we’ve got to look to do here, fight for every point and every player.”link - Angus Salutes Inspirational King Kev
So no doubt about it, a tough fixture tonight. The gap to safety looks frightening, and the time in which to claw it all back is short. Very best of luck to the team this evening.

The only thing in abundance at TUFC currently is incompetence. It would be fanciful to imagine Owers would go and that the total plonker of an owner fecks off as well. Sadly that looks unlikely due to snouts being around the trough. It is appalling in the manner that this club has sunken to such depths and very few managers, players or owners can take much in the way of credit for the events of the past 6-7 years.

Game over. Will Owers stay or go? This combination of Owner and Manager has presided over the worst ever position Torquay United have been in since 1927. I doubt anyone posting on this site was born before then. If there is, good on you. They’ll both be in situ next season. Osborne from his preferred distance. Our off field problems appear likely to worsen still further given his well documented track record and the debt the club is now in to him/his commercial interests. Maybe we will get some form of relief being competitive in the League below with smaller crowds rattling around the biggest ground in National League South. Maybe not. I have been mentally preparing for the day there is no choice but to start us from scratch again for a while now, given my attachment to Reading. That hasn’t been able to happen after Osborne’s stadia promise laden involvement there. Hopefully that won’t be the case for Torquay.

You know and i know the stadium aint going to happen rob history has shown he is a serial bullshitter when it comes to building new stadia
