Watching the press interviews and a couple of recent YouTube videos I must say I'm very impressed with the pair of them.
Both appear to be street wise straight talking hard men on a mission and are likely to instill discipline and organisation into the squad if nothing else.
Can't see this pair tolerating poor work ethic or anything that suggests a lack of effort and will not flinch at making tough honest judgmental decisions.
I predict some team selections that some of us will think odd but they come here with no pre conceptions so we will have to trust their judgement.
For the first time for as long as I can remember we have the type of coaches that oppositions and there supporters love to hate.
Not quite in the Steve Evans/Paul Raynor mold but swinging that way for sure.
Chalk and Cheese compared to Hargreaves, Nicholson etc etc.
"The Mr Nice Guy" route hasn't worked so its about time we tried something different for this club.
Looking at it after reflecting on the long drawn out process I don't think we could ask for better but if this doesn't work out for any reason we really will be in trouble.

I hadn't seen the third one you posted, Pete. Him and Kuhl won't suffer fools on the playing side. Good to see them start bringing in new players today. I expect we will see movement the other way soon if they don't start performing.

Reckon they will be well aware the caliber of player required to survive at this level.
We have all been fooled by the gradual drop in the quality players over the past few seasons. We were all so bloody optimistic before the season started.
We hads no optionother than to Nicholsons judgement in the transfer market but its pretty apparent from his comments soon after he was sacked he was just as deluded as the rest of us.
He certainly knew how to sign injury prone footballers that's for sure and as for quality well his signings have an awful lot to prove to the new men.
Always thought KN was maybe too close to his players - this pair wont be.

The players at our club are full time professional's. On a good wage doing a job alot of people would love to have the opportunity to do ( all things considered).If they are not pulling their weight and the club can afford to get them out or drop them do be it, no room or time for passenger's. The supporters at our club want to see player's putting in 100% effort week in week out, we will get behind any player doing that. If you work on a factory production line like I have you don't have off day's, that line doesn't stop because you've got an off day!!! A brickie on site doesn't get a physio running on to the site to rub his back after working for 6 or 7 hour's in all sorts of weather. Rant over, I just hope some of these guy's release how lucky they are, people who work hard want to see their players/ idols put a shift in.⚽

Torquay United
When a manager leaves less than two weeks into the season there’s always an element of sympathy. Kevin Nicholson’s exit on August 17 with the Gulls bottom wasn’t in the script but Gary Owers has already made his mark.
After an excellent win at Ebbsfleet a few weeks ago he famously said ‘we’re not rubbish anymore!”
But there’s a lot of work ahead. Torquay are still embedded in the bottom four, and their home form leaves a lot to be desired.

One assumes you've changed your opinion Pete Just wishful thinking and misguided optimism Phil but I bet you thought the same. The pair are chalk and cheese compare to KN and Robbie H and just as we all did hoped the complete contrast in management style coupled with better contacts with the prospect of improved quality in the squad would see us move forward. It just demonstrates how wrong you can be when you look through those rose coloured specs. The pair have been an unmitigated disaster. If anyone has the opportunity to ask them why they have failed I would be interested to hear the response. If you look at those interviews and my response where I describe their "hard man" personalities it's my guess they have alienated many in the squad - there is none of the fighting spirit shown by Niholson's squads. Short on talent maybe but the players were always up for the fight. The bottom line is the pair, unlike Nicholson have been supported with every possible resource and have, for the most part had the backing of the supporters. That will now change supporters will see them as the management team that led us to oblivion and as far as I'm concerned they have no future here and have to go before they are hounded out of the club. |

Gary Owers knows people will have written off his Torquay United side as they desperately fight to survive in the National League.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at struggling Maidstone United was the latest blow to the Gulls’ already slim hopes of staying up.
Boss Owers blamed his side’s poor finishing for the defeat - one that leaves United nine points adrift of safety with ten games left to play.
He told the club’s website: “That’s something that has cost us dearly in the last couple of games. We’ve got no-one but ourselves to blame.
“I’m sure everyone’s writing us off but we haven’t given up, the lads haven’t given up – I can guarantee everyone that. We’re going to see it through right till the bitter end.”
Torquay face a crucial trip to fourth-bottom club Solihull Moors on Saturday but they travel to Leyton Orient before that and a result on Tuesday night would be huge.
“It will be a tough game,” Owers added. “I might just shuffle it; might have a think about having a look at some of the guys that haven’t featured and give them a chance. We have to consider every option at the moment.”

I didn’t read that as Owers and Kuhl staying, Flo. Pleased to hear we want to keep Romain. With Osborne’s promotion budget, his retention will be little more than a rubber stamping exercise, of course.  |

20 quid a match for regional football? He isnt going to provide full time footballers on next season gates of around a 1000 max he is dreaming
