Well we have finally least reacted like a professional football club. Its a sad day but it just wasn't happening for KN and I could see no way he could turn it around but this has to be done early to give the new man a chance to regroup. No celebration or rejoicing from me. In many respects Kevin has been fantastic for the football club but where it matters most he has failed miserably. I wish him all the best for the future. www.torquayunited.com/club-statement-kevin-nicholson/

You echo my thoughts entirely and i also wish him all the best for the future. Just for the record Kevin Nicholson took charge of 93 games winning 28 drawing 23 and losing 42...

Think he had another year left on his contract signed up by the previous regime of course. Correction - Nicholson, 36, who was given a three-year contract by United's former chairman David Phillips in May 2016, still had well over 18 months of that deal to run.

As you so rightly suggest Flo sacking Nicholson there are no guarantees that this is the solution or that much will change. We could be in an even worse situation and cut adrift by Xmas if this decision doesn't pay off. Not sure why its gone so horribly wrong for the man and his squad though. On the face of it confidence was reasonably high the pre season was ok though there were a few warning signs over whether the squad was genuinely strong or good enough to compete properly. Said and thought about it a lot recently and that is we have all gotten used to the gradual decline in player quality over the years and its a bit of a shock when you actually see what a decent set of players look and perform like. Tranmere in all honesty were in a different league player quality wise and we did well to gain our solitary point that day. But you cannot go on bluffing your way through games like that week in week out and that I believe is what has happened early doors. Crucially though KN he suffered the loss of Gowling who was outstanding against Tranmere followed by the loss of Jordan Lee who many thought was a great loan signing. Davis I have no idea of his ability but on the whole Chaney did ok filling in but his inexperience cost us on Tuesday - one small crossfield pass error and it's the final nail in the coffin for the manager.
Why this group of players are just falling apart is a great worry. Overrun in midfield AGAIN offering little protection for the defenders/keeper and no genuine bully boy target man is it any wonder we are once again the whipping boys of the division?
Maybe a decent and experienced man can rectify it but I think it will mean bolstering those two key areas. Where from? goodness only knows but I hope the new man is up there tactically, has decent contacts and is very persuasive!

Sad to see KN leave. Quality person. Wish him all the best in future. I'm not so much sad, as disappointed. I didn't see the standard of footie under Kev but as the old saying goes 'You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear'. I suspect all those members currently crowing about Kev's sacking may have revised their opinion by Christmas, when it will be apparent that the new manager can't improve things either, through being constrained by a meagre budget. And despite that background there will still be some fans who can't grasp why we can no longer attract proven managers. You're correct. You didn't see the standard of football and it couldn't get any worse. Making the change was absolutely necessary. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work but it wasn't working anyway. The chances of it working out how now been improved.

Kevin's heart and soul was with TUFC.He managed the club during one of its most turbulent times which are well documented. Given different circumstances could he have done better, I believe so but he didn't have that opportunity and so is released and the search is on for another manager. We need to choose the position carefully. GI will hopefully put more fund's into the Managers area and we strengthen the squad another season of pain and dicing with relegation we could all do without.

I feel sorry for Kevin as a rookie manager just starting out, he had to work in very difficult circumstances and things were weighted against him to achieve any sort of success which could only be realistically measured in keeping us in the National League for the past 2 seasons and after a tough start where we were unlucky at Aldershot the axe has fallen very, very swiftly. The problem may be now attracting a decent manager that could be put off by the shambles of the past few years and who knows what sort of budget is available so the jury is out as to whether this is the right way forward.
