I don't believe i have ever looked at a Labour Manifesto...a fate worse than hanging in my view! It's enough just to see Corbett in the papers and on the news and see his totally ridiculous ideas expounded to his minions!
The problem with that approach - the approach of many Brits, it has to be said - is that you only get to hear the bits that the media sensationalise. They often take a point out of context and weave a 'lunatic' story around it. I'm not a labour supporter or voter but I do believe in reading the facts for myself and then forming my opinion based on that.
I'm not into politics at all believe it or not. I've only ever voted twice in my life, lost both times (Ian Smith in 1980) and UKIP last year, or whenever it was. Although UKIP had no chance, they had the desired affect...out of the EU...maybe!
My problem is with Corbett himself. Some of the things he comes out with are down right ludicrous, if not bordering on dangerous (in my opinion), though we all know of another TUFC supporter who thinks he's the second coming! Corbett that is...not himself!
As you rightly say though, the media has a lot to do with it. I'm sure if i ever met him, he'd turn out to be a very nice guy! Corbett that is...not himself!
The Tories unveil their manifesto today, and fittingly, as they're the new representatives of the working class, it's up North in Yorkshire that they've decided is the perfect venue for the occasion.
Not that everyone wants to brush shoulders with ordinary punters, and the correspondent of what some view as a semi official TUST publication is safely (if expensively) ensconced in the posh carriage.
Theresa May knows that with the huge lead she enjoys in the opinion polls, she can even sneak in a few unpopular or controversial policies today, and still maintain a comfortable lead over Jezza's Marxists.
It's really difficult this time, isn't it ? The Tories are determined to continue with their programme (correct spelling, you Yanks) of austerity, by financially punishing children's meals and pensioners.
The LibDems seem to be obsessed with attempting to bring about another EU referendum, and thus overturn a perfectly legitimate and democratic decision by the voting public.
And as for Labour, can anyone seriously envisage Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister of this country ? Some of his philosophies are certainly more acceptable than those of the ultra-capitalist Theresa May, and yet his image is sadly reminiscent of his predecessor Michael Foot.
So for me, although it may turn out, in statistical terms, to be a wasted vote, it will be another vote for UKIP, as at least it will be a statement of how I really feel, particularly in terms of the amount of money being wasted on foreign aid.

The latest edict by the Tory government defies belief, as they are now attempting to make it increasingly more difficult for ordinary people to indulge in the simple pleasure of smoking. Packets of 20 cigarettes have increased in cost by £1, and all of them are wrapped in a horrible brown cover which in some cases includes pictures of bleeding lungs and other disgusting images. Packets of 10 cigarettes will no longer be available for people who have already decided to cut down.
This government will say that they are introducing a policy which will save money for the NHS by reducing the numbers of patients suffering from lung cancer, but everyone knows that this is a pile of shit. Their policies are targeting the most vulnerable people, namely those for whom the simple act of smoking a cigarette gives them some sort of relief from the pressures of austerity, or those, like myself, who have been smoking for many, many years and do not wish to forego a simple pleasure.
For goodness sake, please don't vote back into power on 8 June this bunch of rich, arrogant and self-centered snobs !!
I think the Lib Dems are the only ones offering an interesting policy on smoking, Stewart.
Tim Farron is a prat. Not only does he want to legalise a dangerous substance which I know, from personal experience, serves only to exacerbate the effects of a mental illness. He now also wants the country to revolt against the democratic decision to leave the European Union. He looks more and more like a misguided and naive schoolboy every time I see him on TV.
Sorry to hear of your experience with cannabis, but pleased to hear of the effects of cannabis psychosis overcome, Stewart. The effect of the drug on mental health is often overlooked, despite it's known positive effects for illnesses such as multiple sclerosis. Tim Farron doesn't fill me with confidence either, although I would hope if they gain a few more seats this time around they might find someone more suitable as leader.
I share your concerns regarding Conservative policies. Jeremy Hunt is my local MP and I shall be voting for Louise Irvine, the NHS campaigner who defeated him in the courts over the closure of Lewisham hospital. A few members of the local Labour Party were expelled for suggesting Labour voters back her here as the progressive candidate. She is second favourite with the bookies, with Hunt seriously odds on. It's a shame the local Labour and Lib Dems didn't pull out - as the Green Party did - to throw their vote behind Louise Irvine. I can understand the arguments against doing that, but Jeremy Hunt is a vile specimen and it would have been good to have a chance of getting rid of him.
Smokers held the upper hand for a long time and selfishly contaminated every environment they entered. I'm glad that this has been reversed in my lifetime.
Wish they'd ban smoking in outdoor eating areas, nothing puts you off your cream tea more*...

For me the legislation does not go far enough. Ever walked behind a smoker in the street and had their residue blow in your face? And why is it smokers just think that when they have finished they can just throw the stub on the street? Whenever I see that I ask the smoker to pick it up. Most do so without argument.
So how far do you think that the legislation should have gone, banning smoking anywhere completely ? How would you like it if one of your favourite things in life was suddenly banned, irrespective of its effects on others ? I do not smoke in the street or throw away stubs. As for confronting people who do so, what right do you have to interfere in that way ? Smoking may be a disgusting habit for you, but that is, after all, just your own opinion.

Smoking certainly is a disgusting habit, and I suspect I am not alone in having that opinion. And yes, I do think it should be banned completely. Tobacco is a harmful drug and it should be classified, regulated, and controlled the same as any other harmful drug.
Chelston encapsulated the attitude of smokers perfectly; his enjoyment was being spoiled by inconsiderate smokers but he ended up moving because they never were going to, a situation I have been in many times myself.
Smokers seem to have this belief that satisfying their craving surmounts any other activity, no matter how much it adversely affects those around them. I detest having to walk through a wall of smoke at entrances to pubs, restaurants, etc, because the smokers have literally just stepped outside the establishment to sate their pathetic weakness.
The UK should follow the example of California, where smoking is 'prohibited within 20 feet (ft) of main entrances, exits, operable windows, or ventilation system intakes'. That has resulted in whole streets with exits, windows, etc, closer than 40 feet becoming totally smoke-free zones. I can think of nothing more pleasant.
Nothing more to say really. Good luck with your crusade against these horrible, inconsiderate, selfish and pathetic purveyors of drugs who are making your life a misery by blowing wisps of smoke over you. You must be a pretty rich guy if you can afford to live in Florida rather than in the UK, where people simply want to be left alone to pursue traditional habits without the interference of a nanny state government, so what right do you have to make these criticisms ?

I take it that those who are whinging about smokers do not drive motor vehicles which polute everyone's atmosphere. Get real, the world is full or risks and why should everyone have to consider your sensibilities, you selfish c***s.
Some useful publicity for Jezza who spent Cup Final morning 'coaching' some local kids in the finer arts of the game as well as exhibiting his goalkeeping prowess. I doubt that Big Nev would have saved it....but he'll be voting Labour anyway. link- Neville Southall Backs Jezza For PM
Labour. Corbett wants to INCREASE the immigrant population in this country! So Labour once again listening (not) to the people of this country who voted to leave the EU because of mass immigration! If Corbett gets in we are going to need more than God to help us!
Tories. Sadly, our Theresa is not the person to lead us out of the basket case that is the EU, and her negotiations will be little more than a token effort! Better than all the above though!
There you have it. My postal vote has already been cast. So, you pays your money and takes your choice...what a bloody choice!
