Don't underestimate just how much ink gets used writing up a 5 year plan. Until someone's nipped round to Smith's for a refill we've had to delay signing further cheques.
Of course it's tempting to think of the huge sums that would currently be being pumped into team strengthening now, if only TUST ownership of the club had come about. But for some unknown reason the community didn't want to take on the responsibility of financing it. My understanding is that on the victorious and jovial coach journey back from Southport on Saturday night, a slight detour to Westminster took place, in order to drop off our famous writing implement with the Serjeant at Arms. But think of the pride we'll feel knowing that the Brexit bill will have been signed with a TUFC pen !
But coming on to equally serious matters, it's a willingness to both borrow and spend that's got us into the current mess. Reaching for the cheque book to pay off one manager after another, to fund work on the Seal Hayne Aquarium, or to get a large number of shares back that were in someone else's name. This sort of badly thought out approach to situations had to stop. We saw where it had led; to having insufficient money left to pay the wages, and Thea having to write off vast amounts in loans she'd provided. To think we can carry on the same way, and say to Clarke Osborne, 'OK we'll start using your cheque book now instead' is to fool ourselves. There's one option on the table, it's a very different one to what we've been used to more recently, but it's 'Sustainable Success' or nothing.
Bringing in Dave Hedges wouldn't have been cheap. Having a full time General Manager isn't cheap. Getting a Youth set-up running again will require substantial amounts of money put into it, but for a change we're building a sustainable model...the past one was anything but. When it comes to expenditure on the playing side, the cheque book and pen aren't locked away. It was there, ready to cover the cost of bringing Kieffer Moore to the club. Even if we could have won a bidding war against a Championship club, was the player ever going to prefer a National league relegation fight,to the glamour of a bit of Championship football this season ? A reasonable wage on offer to Kiefffer from us I'm sure, just as I don't believe it's breadline wages we're finding for Shaun Harrod. Aaron Racine will be being well remunerated also. Isn't it quite possible that we're paying out more to him in a weekly wage than we used to to Nathan Blissett ?
As King Kev reminded us today, it won't be long before some good clubs are bringing in new signings for the final part of the season. This also means that some decent players already at those clubs will know they won't be getting any more games there, and will be willing to move in order to put themselves in the shop window for next season. And so Nico is being patient, so that he can acquire players of real ability, who will make a real difference, rather than pay over the odds now for someone who does neither, and achieves nothing other than dampening down the Forum whinging for 48 hours.

Could have done with the pen as well.

'But with the final day of transfers only a fortnight away, things are changing all the time and new players become available. We are trying to stay patient'.
