Surprised to read AJ hasn’t thrown his hat into the ring. Below the message to which he refers.
Dear Member,
As you will be aware from previous e-mails, our AGM takes place tomorrow at No.10's restaurant at Plainmoor with a 7pm start. We have been advised the bar will be open for refreshments on the evening.
Sadly, both the club and Gary Owers have made personal contact with me to offer sincere apologies, but Gary can no longer attend the Q&A planned after the AGM. Gary has to return to the North East tomorrow for personal reasons and hence we fully understand his position. It must be stressed that Gary was very apologetic for having to cancel at the last minute and is keen to re-arrange another Q&A session with TUST members in the New Year. We are attempting to see if we can find a replacement for this slot but at this late stage we have been unable to confirm anything and hence we felt it was prudent to manage expectations accordingly to avoid any disappointment.
The AGM itself will still continue as planned and we would once again request the attendance of as many of you as possible. The evening is an opportunity for the TUST board to articulate their current thoughts and strategy moving forward. It is also an opportunity for you as our members to provide vital input into this strategy.
We are pleased to confirm an application for a Chairman to replace Michael Goulbourne has been tendered and nominations in support of the applicant have also been received. Subject to the normal voting process, we therefore anticipate to outline the new TUST board at the AGM.

Pleased to see that Mike Thomas is the new TUST chairman.
An interesting evening with professional presentations from Mike, Treasurer Matt Gorman and Vice-Chair Robin Causley.
Some interesting discussions and general consensus on future direction.
Whilst I am all for crossing our fingers and hoping for the best, I am pleased that there are people who will selflessly give of their time to keep a backup on the simmer.

Having been busy on many fronts behind the scenes on TUST business, as well as continuing to maintain and develop our support network and contacts,we have been very aware of, and concerned about, the possibilites re the future of our club.
I have resisted the urge to 'put pen to paper' in my first weeks as chairman of TUST.Preferring to talk to my fellow board members, who are all extremely professional, well informed and passionate supporters. I have also, in the last few months, been taking the time to listen carefully to many different supporters and to read all the comments fans have made on the various social media sites. It has been clear to see that although there are some significantly differing views,there has been a generally increasing agreement that the question of the club's future is now a cause for serious concern, on many counts.Not only the results on the pitch.
We have a board meeting tomorrow, when the above will be the main point of discussion.There are many other initiatives we have been working on behind the scenes,and we have now established monthly meetings with TUFC using the constructive (can be critical) and structured dialogue models provided by the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters' Direct,of whom we are full members.We are due to have out next meeting with TUFC representatives during this month, which we are currently arranging.
When we have agreed on a co-ordinated response and reviewed our action plan
at our board meeting tomorrow, will make a statement, shortly.
I do hope that all the passion for our lovely club will be channeled into one United front to help keep it alive.We are all together on that I am sure!

Thanks for posting that Mike. I think Wrexham was the tipping point as relegation now looks a certainty and where do we go from here???

My guess is TUFC In whatever guise will continue to sink though hopefully NLS will be the low point. Somewhat reluctantly and when I wasn't wearing my rose tinted specs, I always believed we would eventually fall to what appears to be a more sustainable level and it now looks inevitable that will be the case. I would like to think at some point in the future an individual or group of supporters would rally to the cause and re invent the football club and move it forward though my fear is it will continue to stagnate and fail at every hurdle. What crowds are we likely to attract? Would our rather large ground be sustainable and worth keeping when it will be virtually empty except for once a fortnight when the remaining hardy five or six hundred turn up for another shambolic gutless performance. At such a point there may be no other alternative other than for Plainmoor to become residential land - economically it would make sense wouldn't it? This is where we are - failure after failure, regime after regime, manager after manager, sub standard player after substandard player, the whole sorry tale is a bottomless pit. Nobody absolutely no one knows how to make it work and after the last five years and before that when 3 mi;;ion was pumped into the club! I honestly don't believe we will ever see good times at this club again. I have now resigned myself to the team/club continuing as they are - falling at every hurdle. All hope is gone for a better future. Its almost a relief as I no longer have to burden my self with continual let downs and disappointment. Football for me has lost my interest at every level. Roll on summer, warmer weather and the cricket, tennis and athletics season and no bloody football! |

TUST STATEMENT 10th January 2018 Today, after our TUST board meeting last night, we unanimously agreed upon this action. I have posted a letter to Mr Osborne on behalf of the board, our members and I believe a large number of our supporter base. This letter contains several questions which cover most of the concerns that we currently have. I believe, through reading the various fans forums for a number of weeks and listening to a wide range of supporters, that these questions are also now of general concern in terms of our club. We have requested that Mr Osborne kindly gives us a response to these questions in the next few days, in order to, clarify the future situation on and off the field. We, the TUST board plan to meet again at the end of next week and will release another statement shortly afterwards, hopefully by which time we will have received a reply. I need to acknowledge that, as already many have commented on, many improvements have been evident behind the scenes at Plainmoor. Also, certain areas have been more fully resourced and a return of the Torquay United Youth Academy has been very encouraging and welcomed by most supporters. Furthermore, the TUST have been very pleased to have, together with a joint initiative with TUFC, re-established regular meetings with representatives of the Club and ourselves. Meanwhile, I am aware that many supporters, who are not members of TUST, are unaware of the initiatives or are misinformed about the activities TUST has been involved in over the last few years. We regularly inform our members with monthly newsletters, bulletins and through general meetings, the most recent being our AGM in December. The most important thing you can do is join the TUST both to inform yourself and hopefully become more pro-active within the organisation. We have a strong membership base, but we need many more. It is not just your subscriptions we need, albeit they do contribute to the action fund, it is having you on board and fully informed. A quick note to provide a brief update on some of the actions the TUST team have agreed over the last few days.
An "official" Special General Meeting (SGM) notice has been sent out to TUST members tonight to confirm the arrangement of a SGM on Tuesday 30th January @ 7pm at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, Torquay. A copy of this note is below:

We are calling our members to attend a special general meeting, as above, to discuss the future of TUFC. We sent a formal letter to Mr Osborne, towards the end of last week, with a number of questions relating to this. We would like to inform members of the contents of the letter and any responses we may have received from him. We will then ask members to direct us in the way we proceed.

Secondly, we are very mindful of the need to increase our membership and importantly the body of people involved in TUST. We are to undertake an initative before Saturday's game with Bromley to advertise the SGM and at the same time recruit new members to TUST. Your club needs “YOU” Dear All I am writing further to my e-mail of last night to confirm the arrangement of a Special General Meeting (SGM) of members at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 30th January at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, Torquay. I wanted to expand on this meeting and to seek your help where possible. First of all – It is imperative at this point that we look to grow our membership numbers. We need to unite supporters at this most difficult time both on the pitch and off it where concerns lie over the long term future of our club. We are seeking to become far more actively engaged with the fan base and other stakeholders in our club. There are lots of things we need to do, but we are a very small team of individuals and we need some help! Over the last week or so in particular the team have been talking to many key people and personalities in the Torquay United community and we have been heartened by the responses we have had from these individuals both within and outside of the existing membership database. We have seen a steady flow of new members over the last week which is great, but we need more! To that end, the first targeted action is an exercise before this Saturday’s home game with Bromley to hand out leaflets to supporters to advise them of the upcoming SGM and to encourage non-members to join TUST. The SGM is open to members only, but that does not stop people joining before then and becoming eligible to come along. There are only 4 of us on the team locally (with Matt Carpenter and Sean Horstead living out of the area and not in attendance on Saturday). Therefore we need some help with this initiative. We are awaiting a response from the club to our request to hand these leaflets out at the turnstiles, but if this is not permissible we will continue with the exercise as we have obtained permission from the council to distribute on the public footways close by. We have 2000 leaflets printed and are ready to go. We just need some helpers to hand these out and where possible to articulate the benefits of becoming part of our community. We aim to be in position by 2.00 on Saturday. Therefore we would like to “rendezvous” with willing volunteers at 1.50 at the Top of Marnham Road (on the opposite side of the road where it meets Warboro Road). With that in mind can all volunteers please e-mail info@torquaysupporters.co.uk if they can help with this exercise? Your assistance would be very much appreciated! The second point to mention at this time is the SGM itself. This has been called in order to provide face-to-face interaction with the TUST team to enable us to listen to your thoughts, concerns and importantly ideas for what we can do moving forward to unite our supporter base and be best prepared to do what we can to ensure the long term sustainability of our wonderful club. However, it is imperative that we use the meeting to generate positive and constructive ideas to fulfil these objectives. We will be keen to seek out members who are happy to get involved and help. There are huge amounts of great ideas but we need bodies to help push these ideas forward. We need to look at specific areas where members can help, for example Social Media, Marketing, Database Management to name but a few. We need to find a way to reach out to all of the Torquay United population. The SGM is the starting point from which I hope we can really get some momentum. It is very simple really. We all love our club and now is the time to show just how much… We have booked the Livermead Cliff Hotel who are able to cater for the number of people we expect to attend. TUST Interview - Tonight (Fri 19th January)

I wanted to make you aware that ITV Westcountry will be broadcasting an interview (recorded earlier in the week) tonight during their early evening news programme (from 6pm).
The interview was provided as part of a wider piece of work ITV Westcountry were undertaking to cover the club.

Yes, saw the feature which was commenting on the spiral of decline seen at the club and Michael had a very brief feature as a fan making the point that the chairman did not live locally, rarely saw any games and that he had no idea what is intentions are going forward

If it was upped to 10,000 month, tust would be halfway to getting enough money together, to make Osbourne think of talking to them.
Still be a bit short of what the 2 fans of Newport put in at the moment.
It's never going to happen.
£10 a month won't even pay for the washing powder to wash the kits.
