TORQUAY UNITED SUPPORTERS TRUST (TUST)
PRESS RELEASE
THE IAN TWITCHIN TROPHY PRESENTATION
The inaugural Ian Twitchin Trophy presentation, proudly sponsored by the Torquay United Supporters’ Trust (TUST) will take place on Sunday 8 September 2019 in Boots & Laces, Plainmoor between 12 noon and 2.00pm.
This is a joint initiative between TUST, Laura Twitchin, Ian’s daughter and the Twitchin family to honour the memory of a Torquay United legend; a player who holds the record of pulling on a Torquay United shirt the most times in his one club career between 1969 and 1980.
Fittingly, the Trophy will be awarded annually to the player who makes the most first team appearances each season - and for the 2018-2019 season the first winner is Liam Davis who started all 48 of United’s league and cup matches.
TUST Supporter Liaison Officer Nick Brodrick said,” We are very grateful to the Club for allowing us to use Boots & Laces for this special occasion.
Liam is hoping to persuade some of his fellow players to join him and all Gulls’ supporters, whether TUST members or non-members, are all welcome and encouraged to join us in Boots & Laces.
There will be a free light buffet and a welcoming drink available for those attending. TUST hopes there will be a good turn-out to not only see the Trophy awarded but also a chance to show our appreciation to the late Ian Twitchin, a loyal one club professional.”

Great to see Twitch remembered in this way.
A trophy recognising consistency is fitting.
Congratulations to those who have persevered to make this happen. If at first you don't succeed, ....
We may need to firm up the wording of the rules for future. I assume it is all competitive games, not just league. Does a sub appearance count the same as a start?
How about minutes on the pitch? That is probably the fairest, but might make it difficult to do a list of who would have won it in the past. Easy up until 1965 with no subs. Recent years readily available but may be a few tight finishes in the years in between. Does anyone have a spreadsheet with all sub timings on? Doubt it.
Whatever you come up with, Liam Davis is a clear and deserving winner for 2018/19. Gary Johnson won the lottery when he inherited him.
Here is a full list of minutes played for last season :
1. Davis 4297 2. Cameron 4083 3. Reid 4073 4. Wynter 3891 5. MacDonald 3660 6. Lemonheigh-Evans 3095 7. Hall 2982 8. Koue Niate 2924 9. Janneh 2813 10. Andrews 2723 11. Kalala 2476 12. Keating 2154 13. Sendles-White 1552 14. Dickson 1399 15. Edwards 1017 16. Essuman 976 17. Williams 795 18. Bass 720 19. Regis 607 20. Nabi 512 21. Vincent 445 22. Koszela 194 23. Bawling 173 24. Banton 173 25. Sokolik 160 26. Wright 96

TUST August Newsletter - it has been a busy week and this has slipped under the radar but quite a lot to digest including the meeting with George Edwards.

So all clubs - not just football ones - shouldn't have supporters' trusts?

So all clubs - not just football ones - shouldn't have supporters' trusts? This is most likely Florida Gull’s view. There may be two others who support that view on these message boards. Nonsense, of course, but it’s repeated ad infinitum. See Future of TUST thread that was started when the bloke from Hull set up a supporters club for mostly Alpine Joe’s commentary.

Rob I fully endorse Rob's recommendation. Everyone should see the iconic 'Future of TUST' thread, which continues to provide many hours of enjoyable reading. And the really good news is that another of the eagerly anticipated 'TUSTWatch features is due to appear there soon

I agree with Florida's assessment. I can't see how TUST can legitimately interfere with the running of the club when it doesn't contribute to it financially. If they were able to buy a seat on the board then all well and good but they don't have the means to do that and at present I don't think the owners at Plainmoor want outsiders involved in their project, whatever that is. What do the fans actually want? A successful football team challenging for a place in the EFL. If the TUST ever got their hands on the club, say if it was gifted to them, they would be hard pressed to put out a competitive Southern League side. I'm not against a fan's group trying to run a club if they can gain control legitimately and there is no other owner in sight, but how the hell would they cover the losses of £300k plus pa?

Florida Gull / Plainmoor Pete Forgive me as I don't mean to be patronising, but I think your posts reflect the lack of understanding of the remit of TUST. TUST have spent a great deal of effort trying to get across their reason for existing over the last couple of years under the current board and I would recommend you visit the TUST website www.tust.co.uk for further information. To clarify: 1 - TUST do not wish to run Torquay United. 2 - TUST do not wish to have a seat on the board to influence how the club is run 3 - TUST do not have the capital or indeed have any illusions they have the capital to run the football club 4 - TUST are not trying to influence how the club is run. Please can this message be made clear. TUST is merely a body of well-intentioned individuals and members who are there to support the club and ensure it remains in existence for a long time to come. If that means they will offer "constructive criticism" at times then so be it. Like any business, the club should want to listen to its' paying customers and from time to time TUST will act as the voice of these supporters in the absence of any other fans group, but this is offered in a constructive way. There is nothing more that TUST would like than for the club to be managed well under the current regime or indeed any other private owner. I have always been an advocate of maintaining a positive relationship with the club owner and directors on the basis there is value to be had by the club from engaging with supporters. Conflict very rarely gets positive results (just look at the state of the House of Commons at the moment!) You only need to look at the initiatives that TUST were involved in over the last year. Why would the club not wish to take advantage of the time and effort individuals are prepared to put in for free? The biggest misconception seems to be that TUST are power hungry and wish to run the football club. I can tell you that nothing is further from the truth. The well intentioned individuals that sit on the board of TUST are largely full-time employed / self-employed people who would not be in a position to run the club. They equally would happily admit they wouldn't have the expertise to do this or the financial capital, so your comments cannot be disputed in this regard. However, you can rest assured that they would do all they can as a last resort to save our fantastic club from extinction if ever things took a turn for the worse. Indeed, they have a strategic team who are looking at this all the time. What this means is that there is half a chance that the club continue to exist in some format as TUST through their contacts, fighting fund and sheer hard work could at least light the fuse to initiate a call to arms including a whole range of fundraising ideas if the situation were to come about. Would it work? Who knows? But I for one would rather be behind an organisation whose sole purpose it is to support the long term future of the club I have supported for the last 40 years than sit on the sidelines and watch it die.. Let's hope this never happens.. Matt

As a TUST director I have to say that Matt's comments are spot on. The negative TUST comments are way off the mark and do not reflect how the TUST board thinks and operates. Instead of knocking TUST from a distance why not join up and help.
