Further confirmation today of King Kev's outstanding coaching abilities. Having been lucky enough to come under Kev's guidance,we've not only seen Dan Butler cope well with League 2 football, but Cap'n Angus who thrived under the defensive know-how King Kev was able to impart, as well as the responsibility entrusted to him when our manager made him captain, seems to have taken to Championship level football like a duck to water.
Not that any further proof was needed, but today Nathan Smith was presented with the EFL Young Player of the Month Trophy. Port Vale's manager being quoted as saying "For me, he is already a Championship player. In a few years, then the Premier League". It'll come as no surprise to Plainmoor regulars to learn that young Nathan was quick to give the credit to his spell at Torquay United. While giving a passing mention to his current Manager, Nathan emphasised that "What I have most to say thanks for definitely is last year at Torquay"
What a crying shame it is that we handed such extensive sums of money to the likes of Alan Knill to see it to all intents and purposes tipped down the drain, whereas when we are blessed with our current Manager with his clear capabilities to polish rough diamonds, and help players with real potential come to the fore, we are unable to finance a decent standard of raw marerial for him to work with.
Well done to Nathan, who cleverly combined 'On top of the world' and 'Over the moon' to proclaim that he was 'On top of the moon' to get this reward.
A stark reminder for us however, that King Kev is rumoured to be on no more than a 3 year contract. Any organisations with the 'best interests of the football club' at heart, need to be campaigning for that to be at least doubled as a matter of urgency. If you've not got many assets, the least you can do is take sensible care of your most valuable one.
