OK, so not exactly local teams, but the venue of Coach Road is. Saturday's game at Plainmoor is still the big event of course, but what better warm up than the Argyle Reserves v St.Austell game tonight. Live on Facebook for those who can't get there in person. link - Cornwall Channel

Argyle 6 St.Austell 0 I'm assuming Cornish schoolkids still get taught never to trust those from the other side of the Tamar, but sometimes a present day example of just why, is worth a million words. Tuning in to yesterday evenings big match, I was surprised to see St. Austell playing a League match in which the opposition fielded a player who has attracted a transfer fee in excess of £2 million, who is a full Scottish international who has scored against Spain as well as knocking in a few goals in the Premier League. But it wasn't just the selection of David Goodwillie, as it soon became clear that Argyle intended fielding 8 first teamers for this Step 6 match.....no wonder the Non League paper uses the word 'controversy' in it's headline link - Lillywhites v Argyle 1st teamWhile it was good to see Cornish solidarity, with Bodmin Town quick to speak out against the scandal, that wasn't enough to stop the St.Austell manager from giving both barrels to the politically correct F.A in his post match interview. As for the match, it wasn't at all bad. Fairly one sided as the scoreline suggests, but St.Austell were by no means pinned back into the last third. They came up with a number of good attacking moves, but the all important quality of finishing wasn't up to the standard of their opponents, meaning they had nothing to show on the scoresheet despite some surprisingly good skilful build up play. A night of infamy at Coach Road, though don't hold your breath waiting for F.A officials to hold their heads in shame....they've brazened out far worse.
