Bit of a late match day thread I am afraid. Prematch can be summed up with Richards injured, 3g pitch and an opponent with a similar start to ourselves so expect it to be close!

Difficult one to predict. No Cap'n Courtney for tonight's game of 'carpet football', and opponents who will be buoyed by taking four of the possible six points available from their two tough away fixtures at Forest Green and Lincoln. Let's hope we can cope with both Sutton and that 'pitch' and continue our promising start to the season. Cap'n Courtney won't be wearing the armband tonight.

Kickoff delayed ten minutes.
Lathrope for Richards.
Nico takes Lathrope's place on bench.
Kevin Amankwah in Sutton team.

All those taxi fares to cover now, that'll necessitate a recalculation of this season's attendance breakeven figure. Let's hope that pre-match not going to plan doesn't adversely effect things too much.

Sad to say that so far we are totally inept. Zippo up front, nothing happening in the middle and Sutton at least are creating the occasional scoring opportunity. Things can only get better can't they?

And finishes 2-0. Not without incident and a few talking points from this one.

There's nothing worse than getting off to a bad start, and Southend, going into the game with no points on the board so far this season, didn't want another loss at Bramall Lane. The good news for The Shrimpers is that Sheffield United have employed Alan Knill this season....and the visitors were 3-0 up within the first quarter hour with the points already in the bag....keep it up Alan . Elsewhere, not such good fortune for the away side who were visiting Sutton United in the National League. When news first came through that Super Kev and the lads vintage bus (provided by 'Bygones') had broken down, it was dismissed as part of a publicity stunt for our shirt sponsors, which would see the players skateboard the rest of the way to Sutton. A later bulletin informing us that Fred Housego and his mates had to taxi our players to the match probably explains a lot about why Super Kev wasn't able to 'mastermind' an away victory tonight. Still, it's back to proper football on grass this coming Saturday. Ben Gerring has sportingly made the necessary arrangements for GG to be able to start in a more familiar central defensive position in that one. The defeat at Sutton will have sown the seeds of doubt in a few minds, but that can all be put right shortly if we can do the business up North this coming Saturday....assuming the bus can get us there.
